Sounds like wheels. Could it be an axle? To diagnose it you need to figure out what speed it's at... wheel/axle revs, motor revs, speed through the air related(flapping plastic cover underneath). Does it get worse or set off if you hit a bump? Does it come and go with throttle application?

1994 AWD 5-sp, NA.

Car starts shimmying around 50 mph or so, not noticeable below those speeds. It shakes no matter what gear (3rd, 4th, 5th) or regardless of if the clutch is in or out, or if the trans is in neutral or not. Shakes while braking until you're below the 50mph threshold, too.

You also looked like you removed all the foam from the bumper backing, so no issue ...

What did you find in the oil? That sounds terrible. So close to success and "pow." I blew up a five-speed Taurus SHO in a similar fashion - #5 rod bearing took a dump and taffied around the crank. Dropping the pan was like gold mining... copper everywhere. :(

Welcome aboard, I'm relatively new myself and I like it here. Seems like a great crew.

I can see what he's saying... mine is still a bit "wiggly," even in gear with a brand new factory centering spring. Aluminum bushings will probably clean some of the slop up. Maybe press in some brass sleeves for the faces?

I'd like to see the end results of those machined bushings.
