Re: '99 Legacy GT sedan, WRX swap
The turbo is very different like Mike says. I've owned two N/A Subaru's of this era and the DBW is atrociously mapped and incredibly laggy. I was worried about the turbo car too because I drove a 2013 WRX around a bit and it was pretty bad as well. I've now owned two 05 Legacy GTs, and they seem to ...

To help you find a good door, sedan doors work as well. Only the glass is different, so swap a wagon glass into the sedan door and it should bolt right onto your car.

Re: Spotted Thread
AHH that's what you meant. I'm amazed that you recognized that that was your old car. What gave it away? Just the paint? Easy. I'll start simple and narrow it down: 1. It's a winestone sedan. 2. Stock including exhaust and wheels. Pretty rare nowadays. 3. Obviously a 92 because the turn signals are...

No turbos in 1990. But yes, Rio Red was in both years if you wanted to be pedantic. Hah.
Rio Red also went through 2000. The third gen GT wagon in 5mt with Rio Red paint was my next bucket list Subaru until I picked up the 05 wagon.

Speaking of ones Kijan spotted, this one could use some paint as well. But then, i guess, who doesn't need some sort of paint work on their 25 year old car? http://www.preemptiveretaliation.com/spotted/160618.jpg Saturday the 18th in South Everett near Bothell Everett Highway about 6PM. EJ AWD Dual Range 5mt Swap
Hey, you all are my favorite Subaru forum peeps even though I don't have a firstgen anymore, so I figured I'd show you my current project: my wife's 2002 Outback Limited 5-speed. After 212k faithful miles, the original 5mt bit the dust. Luckily it happened after we got back from our 3,500+ mile road...

Re: Swapping EJ20E for a Forester EJ20G?
In addition to the engine I also got the whole body loom from the Forester, plus ignition barel, ECU, intercooler and a few other bits for £200 all in. So far I'm quite pleased with how far my budget is going, will be interesting to see if it actually all works once it's been put together  Goo...

WTB: Euro Outback/Legacy dual range interior parts
Hey guys, here's the story. I bought a dual range transmission for my wife's 2002 Outback. I know there are some European members on here, so I'm casting out my net to find some parts to make a factory looking install. I'm willing to pay pretty well for them if you can get me some or know somebody w...

Re: Swapping EJ20E for a Forester EJ20G?
You could find a fulltime AWD dual range box from a 2.0L SF Forester or Impreza wagon over there, I know that. Plenty of people on this side of the pond have run decent amounts of power through N/A transmissions; as long as you don't drive like a fool it'll hold up fine. The turbo 5-speeds (especial...

Re: Selectable 4wd
Yeah, I think a lot of it had to do with the very strong yen and booming Japanese economy during the 80's and early 90's. It simply was cheap for them to develop and build crazy cars and remain competitive on price, like the LS400, 3000GT VR4, Supra, turbo everything, etc... There's no contest on re...

Re: Swapping EJ20E for a Forester EJ20G?
Hey Kimo, his car is a Gen1 N/A.
You'll lose the selectable 4wd and hi-lo by going to a turbo gearbox!
Granted, fulltime AWD will be better, but I'd miss the dual range personally. Haha.

Re: Selectable 4wd
Yes, sounds like you're correct. 4wd is for loose surfaces only. The next question that I'd be interested in finding out is whether the car has AWD with an open center diff or FWD when the 4wd button isn't pushed. That's a very interesting setup that we didn't get over here. In the early 90's, Subar...

Re: Swapping EJ20E for a Forester EJ20G?
For a swap like that you'll likely need to do what's called a wiring merge. You take the body and engine harnesses from both cars and cut all the old engine harness out of your body harness, then cut all the body harness out of the donor's engine harness. You'll be left with 20-30 cut wires for diff...

Re: Selectable 4wd
Here in the US the Loyale/Leone cars have the dual range, but it has three positions: 2wd/4wd-hi/4wd-lo. On ours, the center diff is open in 2wd and locked in 4wd positions so you cannot drive it on dry pavement in 4wd. I am also aware of other market transmissions connected to EJ engines in Foreste...

You just need to get the 2.5RS together, make it bulletproof, sell the SS and stop worrying about these silly broken transmission problems.

Re: Looking for a few turbo part #s
Subaru doesn't sell harness pigtails or connectors, only complete harnesses. You'll want to find these items from a partout. The pressure sensor and wastegate solenoid may or may not be still available in the dealer parts network. As these cars age, more and more things are becoming NLA. I do know t...

Re: Are there really only 688 Legacy Turbos?
I've seen literature from the period where Subaru was reporting 3-5% take rate for the turbocharged 91-94 Legacy. That would put yearly production around 3100-5300 units for a total of 12,400-21,200 produced over all 4 years. This is probably as accurate as we will ever know. The numbers that SOA an...
