Re: High Idle trouble (91 5mt turbo sedan)

I had a similar issue, the TPS wasn't adjusted properly. Me too.... well mine just started going bad. Eventually the damn thing would "idle" at 3K. lol everyone at lights thought I wanted to race. Anyways, re-adjusted it per the FSM and it was fine again. Yeah when I pulled the engine to ...

Well I've seen them for sale in the past for $30-$60 so probably somewhere around there, how much are you asking?

Re: Possible TPS problem

Does the CEL come on and stay on with the key in the ON position and engine not running? If not, you should check and/or replace the bulb. No I don't think it does, I tried to pull the cluster out but even after I removed all the screws (I think) it still felt like it was held in by something and I...

Re: F.S. Random odds and ends...

There's good info in this thread http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=45711&hilit=catch+can. Basically what I did was, with multiple t-fittings, tied the four vents on the heads and one vent at the rear crank into one, ran it to the can and ran the output of the can back to the ...

Re: Center Diff Question

From searching the internet you need the diff out of a phase 1. You could probably use a later one if you swapped the transfer section but I don't know for sure. Matt Monson or Phil would know. Yeah I'm definitely going to go with a phase 1, the only problem is finding a Subaru in a junkyard in sou...

Sorry to be off topic here but do you by chance have any pics of how you had the catch can hoses routed?

WTB: Phase 1 Center Diff

I need a phase 1 center diff which is (as far as I know) out of any Subaru manual transmission 91-98, I don't care what it came out of as long as it works for my 91 Legacy ss. I'd also be willing to buy a bad transmission with a good center diff if it was semi local (within 100 miles). Thanks guys :D

What bout GL's? I remember reading somewhere that the GL center diffs will work and I know there are a couple late 80's GL's at the junkyard but I don't think there are any manual Legacy's.

Re: Center Diff Question

If it's a manual, and it seems to drive with normal-ish power with no rear driveshaft, then you most likley have a locked up center diff. Continued driving will wear out, or break, parts in short order unless extreme measures are taken to avoid medium to sharp turns. Assuming your center diff is al...

Re: Center Diff Question

It is a manual, I have driven it before with the rear driveshaft off briefly so I know it works like that, can I do that for the time being until I get a new center diff? I feel like driving it now with the diff locked up is going to damage the rear end or axles.

Re: Center Diff Question

well im not sure about the center diff in this trans but i do know you have a limited slip rearend.. you could try changing the fluid in it so see if that might be the problem.. you can also change your trans fluid to see if that helps.. maybe you have a leak Yeah but I believe they are both VLSD's...

Center Diff Question

I believe my center diff is locked up due to massive resistance in the drivetrain when making low speed turns, it feels as if I am holding the brakes when I pull in to a parking spot. So my question is, if I continue driving it like this what will happen, if the center diff breaks will it damage the...

I have the same issue, I think mine is the speedo itself because my cable looks intact, but I've yet to pull the cluster and check it.

My Legacy ss had 177k on it 6 years ago when the speedometer/odometer stopped working so now probably around 300k (I drive alot) My old n/a Legacy had 300k on it. My 90 Jeep cherokee has 250k on it. My 86 Toyota had 150k on the body and engine when I ripped out that crappy 22r and swapped in a 3.0L ...
