Re: Which steelies work?
Good to know! Now just trying to decide if Id rather pick up a set of those or use the crappy, flaking, stock wheels that I just had my winter tires mounted on...lol

Which steelies work?
Any reason why either the steel wheels from a 98-02 forester or the ones from 95-01 impreza, both in 15x6, wouldnt work on my 92 SS? Im looking to pick up some cheap for use with winter tires.

Water pump hose problem
Im trying to find a part number for one of the two small "heater" hoses that attach to the water pump on a '91 ej22t. I believe its the lower one. It's the one that makes two very quick 90* bends. Anyone replace this hose and happen to have the number handy?

Re: 91 SS AWD troubleshooting
Sorry Josh I was mistaken. Neither light stays on. The power light comes on for a few seconds, green, and then goes out. Tomorrow I will mess with seeing if the manual light works.

Re: 91 SS AWD troubleshooting
Yes I was only stopping one wheel. My assistant wasnt interested in trying that...something about safety concerns...lol. And the power light lights up on startup, and I believe stays on, but doesnt flash 16 times I dont think, Ill have to check. One of the two, either power or manual, stays on all t...

Re: 91 SS AWD troubleshooting
Ill have to wait till we get some snow/ice, but Ill try that. I was also going to try the same test with the car up in the air and put the FWD fuse in, since I assume that cuts ALL power to the rear, but it was late last night and I forgot before I put the car back down.

91 SS AWD troubleshooting
So since I bought my 91 SS I have been skeptical about the rear wheels actually being driven. Its had a tranny and rear diff swap in its past, and I couldnt get the rear end to step out in the snow at all. Not a scientific way to tell I know, but I was mostly just playing around after I bought it. S...

Re: 91 legacy awd problems
Jacked up the rear of he car and spun the wheels to make sure the rear diff was ok and it seems to be. I freed up the shifter, it seemed to be binding at the pivot point where it comes through the body of the car...but its hard to tell if its there or I eternally. I was sad to see you can't adjust t...

Re: 91 legacy awd problems
I just did some digging though the wiring diagrams and learned that the inhibitor switch actually sends a signal to the TCU that affects the front and rear wheel power distribution ratio. So it could possibly affect the rear wheels power. Tonight Im going to hopefully have time to jack up the car, a...

Re: 91 legacy awd problems
I wasn't aware the transfer had a limp mode..hmm. it doesn't have back up lights either. I suspect a damaged inhibitor or at least out of adjustment...maybe that's where Ill start.

Re: 91 legacy awd problems
Since I picked up the car in April the gear elector hasn't been able to go past D. The transmission was swapped at some point, by a show that I know doesn't exactally do stellar work, so I suspect an issue with the cable...it also has a code for the inhibitor switch when driving in d-check...I think...

Re: 91 legacy awd problems
Well I haven't had time yet with the weather and work to lift the car up and check, but from what I an tell driving there's nothing going to the rears. The car wont step the rear out at all on snow, and having someone watch me floor it on a snow covered parking lot they didn't appear to spin much, i...

Re: 91 legacy awd problems
170k on the car...no grip in the snow, and last night I had a buddy from work watch as I gas it some gas in the parking lot and he said the back wheels barely spun if at all...and no the fwd fuse isn't in.

91 legacy awd problems
So we got out first snow of the season and the awd in my 91 ss doesn't seem to be working? What's a good way to check, and what should I look into if it isn't?

Re: Rear differential for 92 ss
The non turbo trans that is in there isnt the best. First, it doesnt shift 2-3 well at all. It flares up and slips for a second or more before it catches. It supposedly has a shift kit that was installed by a local tranny shop that does "less than stellar" work. It also grinds/whines ALL t...

Another question for those that have used a cheapo ebay wrx one. is the bolt spacing on the flange the same as the stock legacy ss midpipe?

Re: Easiest downpipe to replace rustty stock one
Yeah I had planned on turning it in for the cat in it. So what year WRX ones work best? Auto or Manual? I have easy access to a very cheap one from an 04 STI, would that work at all? And assuming I use one from a WRX, how much would the midpipe need extending? Last dumb question for the moment, how ...

Easiest downpipe to replace rustty stock one
Pretty sure my exhaust leak is a hole rusted in the bend area of the downpipe, by its hard to tell with all the heat shielding. What's the easiest downpipe to use to replace it? I've tried searching but can't find a definate answer. Obviously one from another legacy ss, but are there any aftermarket...

Rear differential for 92 ss
Long story short my 92 has had the trans and diff changed to ones from a 91 NA. The previous owner blew up the diff and couldn't find a 3.9 ratio for cheap so he swapped the whole drive train from his 91 in. The trans is supposedly fine, and I'd like to put it back in because the one in there is pro...

Re: gear indicator light and other issues
The backup lights dont work either. Cant remember if they did when I bought the car. From the wiring diagrams I have it looks like those run through the inhibitor switch on the side of the trans...Ill have to check the wiring and stuff for that.

gear indicator light and other issues
So my girlfriend was driving home from work today in the 92 as and she heard a clicking sound in the dash like the headlight relay or the washer relay sound. While it was making this sound a box around the "p" indicator was flickering. The prnd. Indicators. Have never worked in the car. Wh...

Thank you for your help sir...when it comes time to replace it thats what I will do. Any reason not to use the cork gasket I keep seeing for sale instead of just RTV like the factory one?
