Head gasket replacement
I don't want to double post, but I searched and didn't find anything. Does anyone have detailed instructions on replacing head gaskets on a 1990. I'm debating on whether to do this my self or not.

Blown head gasket
I have a 1990 Subaru Legacy L station wagon 5spd. I have a blown head gasket. I don't know if the head is cracked or if it is just the gasket. I have 185,000 miles on it. Would it be worth having fixed? The dealer says they will replace the gasket for $450 and he said if the head is cracked to just ...

The more I think about it the only difference with the thermastat being in or out is the pressure right. If there is no thermastat there is no pressure. When I put the thermastat in then there is pressure for the water to get through the thermastat and it causes something to happen which makes it ov...

Hey I think we have the same problem. I have changed the timing belt and water pump. It has new hoses and a new radiator. It just keeps over heating though. When I bought it the radiator cap had no spring and the thermastat was non-existant. My overheating didn't start until I put a new thermastat i...

I had the system flushed and filled when I bought the car, but that was just at the local Valvoline quick oil change place so they hooked there machine up to it and pumped the old fluid out and the new fluid in. The guy that put the water pump and timing belt on said that the Head gaskets were OK be...

Thermastat
Here is the deal. My Legacy wagon has been blowing cold air ever since I got it a couple of months ago. A week ago I got a new thermastat to put in and when I took the old one out there was just the nipple with the gasket around it and no thermastat. I thought this is it. I put the new thermastat in...

Cooling Fans
This evening I went over to my friends house to figure out why my heater blows cold air sometimes and warm air other times. I think my fluid level was low. Anyway he noticed that while the car ran for probably 10 minutes the fans on the radiator never kicked on. So we started testing stuff. I tested...

Heater
Well I had mentioned that the vents didn't blow a few days ago. Well now the car, when the heat button is pushed only blows out hot air 50% of the time. The Temp gauge is in the middle where it should be, but no hot air. Then all of a sudden my feet get warm and it is blowing hot, then it will turn ...

Things were going smoothly, fronts are done and back left is done, but then the Caliper guide pin is stuck on the right rear. I just sprayed some PB Blaster on it and I'm waiting on it to soak in. I hope that frees it or I'm S.O.L. I have to drive this car to work tomorrow. Advance or Autozone don't...

Homeslice, If I find out that is what my problem is how much for the drivers side window switch? Also would you happen to have the wiper assembly for the back wiper on a 90 legacy L? I put washer fluid in it the other day and the little nipple on the squirter is broke off, so the fluid just shoots s...

Is it hard to take the dash apart to get to the HVAC controls? If I get the brakes, the power window swich, and the vents to work I'm in business. Then I can just enjoy driving and working towards my goal of 300,000 miles. The car is tight and I love to drive it. It has no rust which for a 13yr old ...

Power Window and vents
I just bought the 1990 Legacy L. Besides needing brakes the driver's side power window won't work all the other switches work. Also the vents won't blow. The A/C blows cold, but it blows out the vents in the floor. The defroster works it just seems the vents on the dash that don't work. Any suggesti...

rotor and pad replacement
I just bought a 1990 Legacy L 5spd wagon for $1000. It has a 173,000 milles on it. The only things wrong with it are it needs brakes and rotors which I picked up at NAPA. I was just wondering how hard it is to change the rotors all the way around.
