Mine will do that too from time to time. But it's quite rare. Maybe it's condensation causing some electrical noise. I have a question for you (or for anybody else who cares to reply) related to your A/F gauge. When you accelerate hard enough to reach positive manifold pressure (boost), does your ga...

Not to defend the guy because I've never bought from him, nor do I know anybody that has, but he's had close to 10,000 transactions in the last year, and only about 1% got negative feedback. Mind you, he does seem to be a bit of a prick when replying to negative feedback. What worries you about abou...

Well, it's my understanding that a vacuum in the crank case helps the rings seal better, and even with a filter on those breather tanks, they can still be messy. Some oily vapour will get vented into the engine bay and the fumes can get sucked into the car interior. I have friends whose Datsuns don'...

It's quite possible I'm wrong. I'm really tempted to pull the stock dp just to find out. But if I'm right, I'd rather just do this once, so I think I'll wait 'till I get the bung welded on before I try. I measured the distance from the the rear flange of the dp to the lower mounting bracket that bol...

Short shifter and bushing mods done!
This past weekend I modified my shift lever as per Mike Yach's instructions in the Legacy Central Library http://www.legacycentral.org/library/diy_ss.htm . It was fairly straightforward. I also rebent the shift lever to move the knob back more (I'm tall and have the seat way back so I have a long re...

I think you may be thinking of the later model subaru's where there is a splined shaft at the end of the inner CV joint that slips into the trany? On mine, there is a short, splined shaft that sticks out from the trany. The inner CV joint slips over that, and a roll pin is hammered through the joint...

trany stub shafts badly worn!
I was checking things out under my '94 Turbo, and I discovered that there is a serious amount of play where the inner CV joint mounts to the transmission. There's no rotational play (yet!), but I can rock the CV joint up and down, side to side and in and out on the transmission stub shafts. The hole...

I would have to disagree that an in-line six is an inherently imbalanced engine type. In fact, the complete opposite is true. An in-line six produces nearly zero vibration. Strength and durability are also non-issues as there are plenty of I6's producing a reliable 500+ lb/ft of torque on a stock bo...

Thanks guys! I'm happy to help when I can... You should really have no problems finding the bearings and seals. Bearing and seal sizes are pretty standard and are manufactured by many different companies... SKS, NSK, FAG, etc. Hell, I tore apart a 20 year old Nissan alternator, and the local bearing...

I'm running my '73 Datsun 240Z Turbo using an SDS EM3-6F ( http://www.sdsefi.com ) system. http://www.ontariozcar.com/rides/cars/nwhite/nw3.jpg It's a complete stand-alone system. I'm very pleased with it, and it was quite easy to tune. I've never tuned an engine before in my life, but I had the car...

I rebuilt my pump last year for a grand total of... $10CDN! As I was tearing down the front of the engine of my ’94 Legacy turbo in order to replace the timing belt, I discovered that my power steering pump had been leaking everywhere and had made a huge mess. The best price I could come up with for...

ebay downpipe scam?
Anything strike you as odd about this auction for an HKS downpipe? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33630&item=2439260796 Like where it says: "HKS mild steel 75mm SR20DET downpipe for Subaru Impreza WRX." The SR20DET is a Nissan engine! And it goes ...

Be carefull when you remove the pinch-bolt that holds the ball joint in the knuckle. When I did mine, the bolt snapped and it was a major PITA to drill out the bolt. I've heard similar stories from others. I took a torch to the other side to make sure it came out ok. If that's not an option, then re...
