Megasquirt discussion

Post by greg donovan »

i recently discovered the wonders of a Megasquirt ECU.

im trying to learn more about it and reading through the Megasquirt intro and FAQ pages here:

http://www.megasquirt.info/

i aslo joined the megasquirt forum too:

http://www.msefi.com/index.php

i see you a member there too Vikash. dont spend too much time there we need you brain here too

i especially like how it can be done yourself for WAY less than the cost of a GReddy E-manage or similar piggyback setup.

I've been fighting an internal battle with myself about engine management.

Do I go Megasquirt, Kelley's ECU, or an Autronic unit.

I'm pretty torn between the three.

Until Megasquirt2 comes out, then I won't be using Megasquirt. I need timing control too. I want full control over the vehicle.

I like Kelley's ECU, but I'm waiting to see what Megasquirt2 brings to light.

yes the megasquirt is interesting. and there is some good information on the site that will help alot of people understand the process of tuning an efi sytem. but as phil mentioned it currently only contrlols fuel. for what it costs it does what it is suppose to. but
don't expect to make any extra horsepower with it.
fuel has no effect on overall power output in any way shape of form.
fuel tuning is mainly important for thermal managment.
as you make more power you increrase heat.
thus a richer air fuel ratio is necessary. fuel lowers the temperatures within the combustion chamber.
that is why to have a properly tuned engine you need to have access to all of the differant perameters of the engine.

i too have been researching the megasquirt, it is indeed very interesting... form my subaru i am probably gonna go with the e-manage.... i'm deciding to sink some extra money into the car (was supposed to just be my winter beater this year, but i love it sooooo much, i'm hooked on subaru now!). but since i will be driving this car year round now due to totally ripping apart my truck, i am interested in the MS mostly for my truck, it will make a fuel injection swap much easier and fun i think... i just don't know if i have the patience for all that soldering!
