OK well question one answered. You can tune on the fly.

The bad news is I have a check engine light, MAF. I swapped it out for a spare I have and still get the code. I'm going to check the wiring for the 5th time.

It is hooked up and running, just not so well, seems realy rich at idle. The ignition is fine and is running through the PP :)

Stock, I don't have the rails yet for my 440cc's

Well it runs just fine now, still have the CEL.
When I pulled my codes I also got Knock sensor, so I checked that and I had it hooked up to my wbO2 that I wired in at the same time as my PP. Looks like I fucked it up, wired it back in right and still get the code.

I'm maybe going to hook up the wbO2 tommorow, the controller is wired in but I'm going to use the sensor in my new DP in the stock WRX position. Invida DP, it's nice :D

I plan on making an insert for the MAF. Should be the same time as the injectors.

I'm not sure what's going on now, it seems to run fine. Still have the CEL's.

Can't you tune for fat injectors with this system?

Yes I can tune for the bigger injectors but the insert will extend the range of the MAF as well.

Good news and bad news.
The good is that I was in Portland and had Sean at RalliTEK check out my PP. It was good, no damage and it's all wired up right.

The bad news is I'm thinking I might have messed up my ECU. I am going to check that I didn't bend any of the pins on it and strip back the shielding on the wires a few inches to make sure I didn't melt the insulation off any when I was soldering. Then I'm going to check the wires with my multimeter. After that the only thing that could be wrong is my ECU.

I have the basic setup of the PP down but I don't have the wbO2 and I'm not going to tune it for limp mode.

If it's the ECU I might be able to get a new one and I'm also thinking about switching to a N/A ECU if I can't find the turbo one easy. Any thoughts on that? I will have full fuel and timing control so I don't think it will be bad at all, just more tuning.

EDIT: Sean went out of his way after they "closed" on Friday to check out my PP and talk some tuning with me.

You will need to buy the PP with cable and software. You can buy just the PP but there are no maps for it or your mods yet, so you need the one you can tune yourself. That price I payed is for everything you will need.

When I was talking to Sean at RalliTEK he said there was a way to use the PP to do the FCD thing, clamp a voltage.

No work yet done to tune, still have the CEL thing (that I F'd up) and now the coolant tank :(

I might tune it with just exhaust and IC to see what I can get. I'd be interested to know how far I can push the stock turbo.......

I aplaud your efforts -K- (\golf clap\) and look foward to some tuning results.

I want to get my T-Leggy tuned as well, but was thinking a UNI-Chip tuned on a local dyno, but this is a possiblity (though uni-chips are cheap) as it would allow more tuning for larger injectors etc....

I think the VF11 has not been pushed to the limits yet (or any setup really) due to lack of tuning. If the 13G is only marginally bigger than the VF11 (~ 360cfm vs 340cfm is what I've seen) and folks are trapping over 102mph on the 13G, then the VF11 on more displacement should yeild similar results. Except for fueling issues....? which is the power limiter in this case.
Does anyone know what kind of traps wrx people are pulling with stock wrx injectors AND turbo (and what size are they...?)

As far as the VF11 I'm more worried about the small hot side than the small compressor.

I'm also not too worried about the 370cc injectors, with a bit more fuel pressure they should do what I want. I got the 440cc injectors to increase the range of the MAF. Now that I can map out fuel by boost and RPM with the PP I can just clamp the MAF sensor under 5v and tune by MAP.

I know you can get close to 300CHP out of a WRX with stock turbo, injectors, TMIC.

I'd love to tell you how well it works but....

No coolant tank yet, I'm building an aluminum one.

I just got my new knock sensor, I should have it in this weekend.

I still think the ECU might have some problems, I have a CEL for MAF. Wired it back to stock, no change. Changed MAF, no change.

Anyone have a turbo ECU? I thought I knew where one might be in a JY but no luck. I'm about to just ditch the turbo one for a N/A ECU when my coolant tank is done if I can't find the turbo ECU.

Oh while my car is down for a bit I've been fitting up some exhaust as well.

I'd stick with the Turbo ECU.. Just incase the N/A one has restrictions like the OBDII N/A ECU's when it see positive manifold pressure.

This PP is a nice deal for the Sport Sedan guys.
Once I sell my current car & can find a good SS to buy, I'll be looking to pick up the PP and see what I can get out of it.

I know someone is asking about trap on a WRX... not really a drag guy myself, but 13.5 at 103 with about 285hp at the crank is what I got from my Cobb Stage II+ WRX wagon.

I'd think the SS would be quicker as it is lighter and has more displacement.

Good luck -K- keep us all posted as we'd like to hear how it goes. I know Shawn at Rallitek, and I'd consider once you sort out your tunning problems, to see if he'll give you a deal on tuning your car then he could offer an off the shelf map for SS guys.

First-generation non-turbo ECUs don't get upset when manifold pressure goes above atmospheric; just ask Douglas Vincent.

Thats cause the manuals dont have any MAP sensors. The autos do I think?

None of them do. They started putting pressure sensors on autos with the advent of OBD-II, and eventually put them on manuals too. But among 1st-generation Legacies, only turbo models had them.

Good news! I got my coolant tank fixed, wired in my wbO2, replaced the knock sensor and got my three inch exhaust on. Exhaust is an Invidia DP and Perrin cat back. I ran the wbO2 sensor in the stock WRX O2 bung.

Started it up and it ran a lot better. Checked the codes and still have the knock sensor but no MAF. WTF? Still it runs good and I can watch the AFR so I'll hook up my laptop and play with the Perfect Power.

bump for results.

also a question.

aparently the third map can be used to tune the stock boost solenoid. how would this work and what would the max boost be able to go to?

also does it work as a fcd.

WOW cool.

My PP will be here monday and I am stoked. You all know of my 1993 SS motor into a 95 impreza project. Talking to sean at rallitek, we concluded to try my stock Impreza ecu with the PP and it should work fone from what he says. I am interested to what you find _K_.

Mine is going on at the same time as a 3 inch stromung Turboback, WRX turbo, WrX intercooler, Walbro 255lph pump and parrallel fuel mod.

I am skeptical as to it working with the Impreza NA ecu, so I might still have to swap harnesses but we wil see how it goes.

He did mention something about a voltage clamp but I don't remeber what it was.

As far as controling the boost controller solenoid, Sean said something about mapping the PP so that the boost controller can work like stock, or delaying it so you have better response, but at the greater risk of spiking with a(slower?) duty cycle. Thats what I think he said. I am wiring in the stock boost controller so I will Let you know what I find out.
