Coolant tank hate thread
Well as the subject says I HATE those things. Mine just broke a nipple off driving around. I noticed some smoke frome under my hood so I drove the half block to my house. Got pretty hot in just a minute, hope I didn't do any damage.
Looks like I'm going to make an aluminum one now.

I knew a kid who pierced his nipples with safety pins when high. He later ripped them out under similar conditions. Last I knew they don't grow back.

I'm on my second one and just Saturday I had to fix a torn coolant line, that my TMIC puts pressure on, that was spewing. You wouldn't believe how relieved I was when I popped the hood and saw it was the coolant line and not the nipple. I almost cried and I think I'm suffering from PTS. Cold sweats that come out of no where. Oh and the nightmares, I can barely stand to go to sleep anymore.

Parts that suck would work just as good though.

I SHOULD HAVE RESULTS AS SOON AS I INSTALL IT ON MY CAR AND TEST IT UNDER HOT CONDITIONS. I GOT ALL THE PARTS TOGETHER TODAY, I NEED TO GET THE ROUGH WELD SPOTS OFF AND PAINT IT. OHH ALSO I NEED TO WORK ON GETTING THE FITTINGS AND THE CHECK VALVE. SO I'LL KEEP YOU ALL POSTED

So my car is currently a disorder? Sweet.
I just used a wrx coolant tank, put it where the battery was, and put the battery in the trunk. Easy.

WHY ARE YOU USING A LEAD-ACID BATTERY IN THE TRUNK!?!?!?!
Holy shit dude, that's hella dangerous!
You NEED a dry-cell battery that doesn't give off hydrogen gas as a byproduct. That's horribly unsafe without breather lines running out of the trunk.

Yeah, relocating the battery to the trunk usually involves either a completely different battery (read: sealed Optima battery, or yes one of them newfangled dry-cell batteries - which will save you about 30 lbs of weight anyway), or one of those nifty platic mounting cases they sell at Autozone that has vent tubes you can run somewhere.
Regular lead-acid batteries are no good to have in the same closed location as you. Kinda like the Highlander - "there can be only one." (you or the battery)

Like BAC5.2 I used a wrx tank. I bought a new one but the subaru recycler had 1 for $65 but it was a 4hr roundtrip and I didnt have a car. I'm currently working on relocating the battery to trunk.
I'm using a sealed aluminum battery box. Regular lead acid batteries give off hydrogen when charging which needs to be vented or you will have a Hindenberg/Pinto scenario.
