Replacing the front door window rubber seal
Hey guys, my front window is making wind noise on my driver's side door. I've seen lots of talks about this but I know for a fact that it is the rubber seal that hugs window as it comes up. It sits on the inside of the rearview mirror and the plastic triangle. I'd like to replace that thing, and I feel real silly for asking this but how does that thing come out?
I had the door apart last week fixing the locking mechanism and glanced at that rubber but couldn't figure out how to take it out.
Has anyone else pulled that off?

If the rubber's in good shape you could just stick some 1/4" rubber tubing between the folds of the weatherstripping which helps force contact with the window. It's worked on mine for four years so far.

yeah....I used car stereo power wire. It's nice and flexible.
I've been wanting to get an old gasket and cut it up and put some more rubber behind the current one.

Well I've tried the spacer in the rubber folds. That didn't work.
How do you compress the triangle piece cypher? I've tried pushing it together or bending the rubber closer together but it doesn't seem to stay.

On mine I had to bend it quite a bit farther than you would think it needed. The first time I did it it worked for quite a while, the second time I bent it further and it hasnt came back yet.
The spacer idea works too, I was just joking
Believe it or not I have been using this handle since about 95, so it has nothing to do with the matrix. How do you think I got the email of ciper @ hotmail, with a password that is currently LESS than what is allowed (as long as I dont change it its grandfathered in).

Not to be a nag or anything, but should you really be broadcasting that? Even if it is just this group?ciper wrote:How do you think I got the email of ciper @ hotmail, with a password that is currently LESS than what is allowed (as long as I dont change it its grandfathered in).

Ok bend it, but how exactly did you do that?
Did you push the tringle piece and the side view mirror together? I'd be afraid I'd brake something. Or did you just bend the rubber seal's two ends together?

Squeze the triangle together with the window rolled down. Use one hand on either side and have the door open. The rubber channel that the window slides in should close up while you have pressure on it.
You also have to bend the triangle inwards a little bit. Realize that everything flexes so you have to bend it beyond the flex point for the position to stay.

I've tried bending it, and didn't work. Don't know if I just didn't bend it enough......oh well.....

I got it. Sweet silence!.....reletively. I get quite a bit of road noise from the Potenza's.
I pulled (very carefully since I've had to broken ones already) the triangle piece out and then loosened up the mirror from the two bolts in side. Then I just squeezed the rubber seal to the point were the two ends that would go on either end of the window were pretty much squeezed together. I did this a few times. I sappose you could even use pliers to pull the two ends together as long as you don't scratch up your side view mirror or rip into the rubber of the seal.
Then all I did was put the two screws back in and the plastic triangle, took it for a test drive and just started to smile.
Thanks for the help guys.

Well I probably didn't have to take it apart, but as I was putting pressure on that plastic triangle on th inside of the door, I started getting a little worried. I've already had two of those break, and yes the other two were in worse shape, but I didn't feel like breaking that one, so I pulled it out. Then I saw the two bolts holding the mirror on so i loosened those a bit so I could squeeze only the rubber seal together. It gave me a little more leverage I think, but your right, I probably didn't need to do it.
