Can I use a heavier flywheel?

Post by douglas vincent »

So last year I got a good deal on a new flywheel off Ebay. 100% new but for a newer Forester (I think).

Anyway, its direct bolt on, but if you know your older Legacy flywheels, you know they are kind of "cut" out but this is a casting process, not a milling process. THis means it is about 5-10 lbs lighter than this newer flywheel.

What will this do to my engine? My older flywheel is pretty shot.

Is the flywheel from the forester from a n/a or turbo forester?

If it's from a n/a forester, then you can use it, and everything will be fine.

No clue.

All measurements are 100% identical. Its just thiicker in the casting where the stock flywheel is dished out.

if it's a n/a style flywheel and the mating surface is the same....I wouldn't see why it wouldn't work.

Heavy flywheels are good for launching. Go for it.

Lots of local high-output cars use stock flywheels.
