power mode/poor torque converter

Post by Saskatchewan Subie »

Does anybody know if it's possible to set something up so that you could manually turn the power mode on and off like with a toggle switch or something. The reason I'm asking is because my tranny seems to shift far to early even when I've given it a lot of thottle. It just seems to drive a lot better in power mode.
Actually a lot of the time, the engine and tranny seem to be fighting each other and the end result is very poor acceleration, unless I step on it quick to engage the power mode. I sometimes wonder if my torque converter is about to fail and that's why it seems to struggle because when the weather is cold, the torque converter takes a very long time to lock up.
Anybody have the same problem or can offer me some advice?

I won't make any piercings jokes.

It could be your TC, or it could be the whole tranny. Instead of worrying about it, why not check out the tranny swap page, and think to the future:

What you're probably experiencing is simply an aging transmission. Unfortunately, there's not really a solution other then rebuild or replacement.

As for the power mode thing....no not really without screwing other stuff up.
