I averaged 21-22 mpg on my '93 L NA AT AWD bc in combination city/hwy driving. Never got over 23.6 mpg continual interstate driving. Would sometimes go down to 17 mpg in city-only driving with AC running all the time. Didn't matter how I drove the car, mileage was consistent to within 1 mpg.

Laurel, your mpg might be the exception. But then, you might be an exceptional driver.

I can think of a few reasons my mileage is lower than LaurelTheQueens.

(1) Wind resistance from the roof-rack. It's got a wind deflector and bike tray on top of it too. Although around town I wouldn't have thought the hit would be too bad.

(2) I live in Texas, and have to run the A/C almost all the time.

(3) How much do you weigh Laurel

lol. never ask a lady her weight. I'm sure whatever the gap between my weight and your weight would have been made up for by the loads of stuff and people I usually had in tow, and the ENTIRE DRIVETRAIN behind the front axles.

not sure on the maintenance records on my car but the oil has remained pretty damn clean for all the milage ive put on the car so assume the rings are pretty tight. Suspect the sparkplugs might need to be replaced (why? they looked at me funny and are cheap to replace) and apparently need a new timing belt.

Was getting 25mpg-26mpg until she gave up the ghost last(?) week (see affore mentioned comment on the timing belt).

After changing my plugs last week (NGKs), I got 23.9 mpg doing mostly city driving. All fluids have been changed within the last 9 months.

I get, on average, 19mpg in the city with my car.

I get 45 to 50 on the bike.

I was just about to come on the BBS and complain that I felt my mileage was getting worse. But, after reading what others are getting maybe I'm doing fine

I'm driving my N/A '93 FWD Sedan 5-speed and getting 28-29 city and around 35-36 on the freeway. Sounds like I'm doing good.

Thanks for the other fuel economy tips that I've been reading.

Its a phase 1 2.5 bottom end with stock everything else. ported throttle body, ported stock headers, gutted 2nd cat. 33mpg driving like a grandma, 17mpg driving like an idiot. I just built it a month and a half ago, pleased as punch with it. its no turbo motor, but it gets it done. the mileage is my favorite part. maybe 170hp at the crank. eventually this motor will find its way into a ea81 or a aircooled dub where it will haul ass.

I just calculated what I got on my last tank with the exact same model - 23 mpg, with about 200 miles on the highway. I'll see what it comes out to now that I've removed the roof rack.

Well on top of it being an N/A FWD sedan (the lightest 1st gen there is) and a 5-speed (additional efficiency), I'm running Amsoil smurf-juice in the transmission and Amsoil 10W-40 fully synth in the engine. I also have piping running up from the front bumper to a box housing a K&N cone filter. This helps the car breathe really easy as it delivers a ton of fresh air to the intake.

The only bummer is that the smurf-juice is a little too slick for the sychros.

Other than the above listed, I just have the standard performance through pipe muffler, NGK plugs, magnecore wires, lightened crank pulley, and 17" wheels running 41psi in the tires all of which I think contribute to the mpg but not as much as the oils and intake.

Let me know if you guys have any other questions about my setup.

The ultimate gas saver, driving a 87 GL wagon using 87 octane and getting about 27 mpg! yay!
Coincidentally it's the ultimate fun sucker out of.

I dont consider those gas savers, you save on the car itself! there are fixer uppers for same here all the time for $100-$300. you can use the money you saved on gas.

my fox gets rediculous gas mileage. even though i have to run premium to get it to run right, I can get at LEAST twice the mileage of my roo. Coincidently, driving it sucks donkey ballz. Decisions, decisions...
