93 Legacy Turbo Hill Climb car ~not for the squemish!!~

So i found a nice little legacy turbo MY93, that is going to be a center driver tube chassis hill climb car. Were in the process of pulling the engine, complete drive train and wiring harness. Were planning on using the stock suspension untill we figure out a setup for some coil overs we have sitting in boxes.

But i have a few questions:

does anyone know, or is, running 2.5 heads on their EJ22T block?

If so, are the exhaust ports compatible with a Legacy Turbo manifold? or do we have to use the 2.5L manifolds and customize the exhaust?

Can anyone lead me into the right directions for frame prints? we need a blue print of the frame so we know where to have our wheelbases to start at, along with a pile of more info we need. If someone has some prints or knows where to get a copy for the 93 legacy sport sedan, that would be awesome.

also whats the largest rim to fit on a legacy and clear the struts? we have an extra set of 17"x7" Tenzo's were planning on using, but if they wont fit we might just stay with the stockies.

were also thinking on our own custom exhaust from turbo back, since we havent gotten far enough to remove the shields, does anyone know the size of the inlet on the turbo, along with the exhaust out?

Last of all, with 2.5" heads, STI intercooler, aluminum radioator and a EJ22T what is the max boost that can be run through this?

you need the 2.5 intake manifold for those heads as the ports are different. for the exhaust, if they are dual port heads then the ej22t manifold should work fine.
not too sure on anything else, but that sounds like a cool car.

going to take a look at the 2.5RS motor now, see what has to be swapped over.

Only people I know with the measurement charts would be a body shop. You might wanna try runnin around and gettin all buddy buddy with one, Get some stickers made, and advertise their shop.

If I were serious about a race motor, use WRX heads. You'll need the intake manifold, and you'll need a machinist to add a couple teeth to the cam gear for the cam angle sensor. Then you'll have many injectors to choose from, and WRX TMIC's will fit much better in your car.

I know of people running 30psi on these blocks.
I'd prolly find a nicefatty radiator, and invest in a decent welder.
Id make my own exhaust out of mild steel, so when you squish parts of it ditch hookin, you can just cut and paste new sections.
Theres also a few spots on the unibody that could stand to be seam welded. Like where the inner fenders meet the A pilar. Pull off the front fenders and you'll see what I mean. Theres also a couple spots around the rear strut towers.

Theres a bunch of weight to loose. Do a search, we had a pretty good discussion about it a couple months ago. If you can get your hands on a fiberglass hood, you'd be stoked, and think about replacing the roof skin for one without a sunroof.

What kind of mods are going to throw you into tougher classes? Whatcan you getaway with, without your compitition noticing?

dont have too much time to reply back right now, but were not using the chassis, were building a complete frame from the lower control arms to the roof.

We just managed to get the complete engine wiring harness and other goodies out this afternoon.

ill have time to post more and hopefuly show the progress done so far.

Heres some pics of where were at now. We hope to have it running after we pull the 5MT out and stick it on. The wiring has been limited to only what is needed, but im sure well have some trouble shooting ahead of us. Were looking forward to the multiple check engine codes that are going to pop up

i think you best bet for measurements is to go to a body shop or take measurements yourselves off another car.

ok, got a little update on the car

Last three days have been 12 hour days spent on lining up the front and rear end and securing our main box frame and our bottom rail.

These pics run backward, new pics on the first page and getting older with each page.

So far were in:

$600 for the car
$150 in tools, cut off wheels, etc
about 90 hours worth of man hours

So far what we have come across for the steering rack is kind of funny.
were going to take a honda accord steering column, all stripped, attatch it to the knuckle, on the birst set of u joints (upside down), with the honda steering column stripped and upside down, then run the stock legacy ss steering column, stripped as well on to the honda column, giving us a little more length and also giving us the ability to tack or bolt the honda rack to the frame, were still working on the details of how its going to work., but rest assured its going to

Were not sure if what we did is going to be a pro or con, but we shortened the wheel base so its exactly 8' from center of the rear CV joint to the center of the front CV joint, were in the process of getting the drive shaft shortened abotu 6.5" as thats what we came up with for the correct length.

were trying to stay under 1500lbs as thats the class we want to race in, anything over 1500lbs were up to the big boys with V8's and sick mods....

Only mods to the stock subaru parts is our shifter linkage, and were working on that, so far its looking like its going to be a left hand shift with the way the shifter comes out of the tranny vs the drive shaft location. I have my eye out for a 2.5RS impreza 5spd as i love those tranny's, and they take one hell of a beating. Also im looking for SOHC 2.5 heads, intake and crank. Pistons are the other 2/3rds of the crew, So those are going to be about $400 to $450, so far i have most of the $ tied up in the car besides labor. i have to work and they spend most of the time they're supposed to be working working on the hillclimb car, lol, thats the great thing about self employment, im usually done work by 10 or 11 am so im on it usually or for the last two weeks from noon to 8 or 9pm...so its working out good, i have a good couple of friends who are very mechanically inclined, not to mention that all of us have over 5 years mig and tig welding, so were arguing over who gets to weld haha...its been a great project so far, and hopefully we can finish her up before the first snow flies, i would love to play with her in an inch or two of snow
