What's your driving style?

Post by snowboarded »

Normaly how long do you run out 1st gear? And what speed do you usually shift out of 2nd?

I usually run 1st out till about 17-20 mph, not flooring it and shift out of 2nd at about 42-45.

A lot of the time I run to redline in first and second too if on the highway. If I'm taking it easy I'll shift around 4.5-5k rpm's. If the engine is cold I shift around 2.8-3k and don't get into the throttle hardly at all though.

I'm the crazy bastard who takes off at every stoplight. I run it up through 2nd and then slow it back down to the limit usually in time to hit the next light and do it all over again :). Though I try to not to take the revs over 6k.

I drive like Grandma on the street.

The way I see it, my car is slow, so there's no point in beating the shit out of it to still not get anywhere all that fast.

I will still jump on it every once in a while, just to take out some aggression and give the car a good Italian tune-up, but that's it.

That's also why I've had a perfectly clean record for almost 3 years, and my insurance drops every 6 months.

However, I will try to lay the law down on a racetrack.

When I ride some wheels is spinnin'

I'm a rather showy driver, probably more a bmw type who's got nothing to lose and everything to prove.

Usually pretty reserved.

I almost never go on-boost unless it's WOT, and I never really go WOT below 3500.

I'll shift at like 20 out of 1st and at 3k or 3500 out of 2nd. I don't really like 5th gear though, so I'll run in 4th to around 4000 or 4500 before shifting, and only when I won't have to downshift again soon.

When the tranny goes in, I rekon I'll never use 5th again unless someone complains about the noise.

Full throttle to redline in every gear I have room for. Full brakes when I run out.

Yeah, dont we all use the rev-limiter as a shift light... huh? I thought thats what it was there for.

And to save weight I've removed my throttle and brake pedals and installed a large two position toggle switch in the dash... full gas/full brake... hasn't affected my driving style a bit.

I drive my SS around pretty subdued...but usually at least once or twice per trip I get it up to full boost for a second or two...

I shift around 2500 around town, since these motors are complete torque monsters!!

I got in a bit of a roadrage battle today, and this guy came up and tried to ride my ass on a rural highway...needless to say...once the Leggy was wound up to 16psi in 4th...he didn't have a chance in his 4Runner

It took you until 4th gear to outrun a 4 Runner?

Phil, you gotta remember, you've got a skewed view on what a Leggy can do, what with all the mods and all :).

I think I can hold my own against a 30 year old vette. It's the C5 and C6 I have trouble with these days.

About 60% of the time I shift in all gears after 3000-3500. The rest of the time I take 1st to probably 5500, 2nd to about the same, then I'm usually over the speed limit.
