My orignal EJ22T, which had ~380,000km's blew a head gasket. Instead of rebuilding it, or looking for another EJ22T locally (since they all seem to have a lot of miles on them), I found a JDM Legacy EJ20G with < 50,000km's locally. I have also been able to find a Ver.1/2 JDM WRX Sti TypeRA ECU (pics below), which I'm planning to use in this setup.
I will be swapping the following into my 1991 Legacy SS:
PARTS LIST
------------------
1994 JDM DOHC EJ20G
1994 JDM WRX STi Ver. 1 TypeRA ECU (pics below)
SVX Ignitor
2003 USDM WRX T04L turbo
------------------
The car:

The 1994 WRX STi TypeRA ECU:

Here are the numbers on the ECU:
22611 AA810
A18-000 RY7
4525
(Made by JECS)
I have been reading through a lot of posts on LegacyCentral and NASIOC about similar swaps done by snowjob, Matt Monson and Do It Sidewayz. From what I have been able to conclude by looking at the 1991-1994 USDM Legacy (EJ22T), 1992 JDM Legacy (EJ20G) and 1994 WRX FSM's, the only difference in the wiring is the 2-channel ignition system vs. the 4-channel Coil-On-Plug ignition system in these cars.
I am planning to use the STOCK USDM EJ22T wiring harness and hook it up to the JDM EJ22T engine and to the 1994 WRX STi ECU. By looking at the diagrams of the USDM EJ22T ECU pinouts (http://www.graphics.cornell.edu/~v/ecupins/) and comparing them to the 1994 WRX ECU pinouts (http://www.graphics.cornell.edu/~v/pics/94_wrx_ecu.pdf), there seem to be only 2 wires that are different (the B44.7 and B44.8 Ignition Channel #3 and #4 on the 1994 WRX FSM). Someone please confinrm whether this is the only wiring modification that will have to be done.
I am also planning to use the USDM SVX ignitor and splice it to use it with the 1994 WRX ECU and the JDM EJ20G Coil-On-Plug.
Here are my Questions:
--------------------------------
- Could someone provide me with a diagram or pointers on how I should connect the SVX ignitor to work with the 4-channel Coil-On-Plug system in the JDM EJ20G?
- Will the USDM EJ22T Legacy wiring diagram plug into all of the connectors on the JDM EJ22T?
- Could someone that this 1994 WRX ECU is indeed a "1994 WRX STi TypeRA" ECU?
- Can I use my stock USDM EJ22T MAF sensor with the 1994 WRX ECU and EJ20G, or do I have to get the JECS MAF sensor
(mentioned in this post: http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic. ... 1259#51259)
Quote: " As far as I can tell, everything else is actually the same aside from the different MAF sensor (the EJ20 ECU is a JECS unit and so uses the JECS sensor). "
- Can I use the 1 stock USDM EJ22T O2 sensor, or did the 1994 JDM WRX use 2 O2 sensors?
- Will my stock USDM EJ22T MAF sensor, Wastegate Control Solenoid Valve and Pressure Exchange Solenoid Valve work with this setup, or will I have to replace them with the JDM components in order to accurately read 15psi of boost and correctly relay it to the 1994 WRX ECU?
- Are there any other wiring modifications that I will have to make to the stock USDM EJ22T wiring in order to run this setup?
--------------------------------
I will post pictures of all the modifications needed to drop in the JDM EJ20G into an USDM 1991 Legacy SS as well as diagrams documenting all wiring mods needed. At the end I want to post a video of what the final outcome will look /sound/drive like.
Thanks in advance for all your help
