Source for keys

Post by magicmike »

I was at the dealer today picking up a new rear wiper arm for the new wagon ($30) and got a spare key made while I was there. The guy told me that you cant get the keys with the black plastic subaru marked in them anymore. Is this true? Does anyone know of a place to get a nicer key than my shitty looking 84 datsun key I have now?

You can get any key you want on ebay. They have tons of novelty ones too.

I was going to get one of those fancy mercedes type flip out keys for my 90 but it would only work for 91 and up.

GO SON!!! GO AND BE WITH YOUR NEW KEY!! I HAVE GIVEN YOU THE POWER!!

I bought a new black plastic key WITH light from jamie not too long ago.

So you should be able to still get them.

ahh thank you, I'll do some searching on ebay. Josh, is the key you got an original subaru key? It sounds just like my GL key I had.

Why wouldn't you be able to get a brand-new Subaru key that was intended for a later model?

the super new subarus use a thicker key that won't fit into our "slots"

I had new keys made with black plastic, but they're not as wide as the original key with the black plastic. they still look pretty ghetto. ebay "subaru key" and you can find all sorts of cool shit.

Out of curiosity, why won't any of those eBay keys work for '90 Legacies?

If the key blanks are for too new a model, they're too thick to use.

Hell if I know. I was just told most of the keys on ebay will only work for 91+

And that was from an ebay vendor.

I thought I read somewhere that you can just grind an sti key down and it will fit. If I was interested in an sti key I would buy one and try it. I have access to a surface gringer at work so I could mass produce these if people would be interested. As long as the only difference was that the key is thicker and the grooves are all in the same place.
