Cigarette lighter replacement

Post by subjfd »

2 dumb questions:

1) How do I replace the cigaterre lighter ?

2) Can I buy any generic one, or do I need a sub specific ? I am only using it to power my iPod !

Cheers

Very Good Question...

That's a very good question...mine also isn't working and I'd like to get it fixed...if you find out, let me know and I'll do the same.

They are all the same really. Any minor modding could easily be done.

Have you removed one, Phil? I just gave a quick look over mine and couldn't figure out how to get it out. Its bezel doesn't seem to be a snap-in-snap-out deal like the dash switches' bezels.

The cigarette lighter? I think I read in the FSM or Haynes that that it is screw-mounted. You have to remove the whole instrument bezel to expose the screws. At that point I gave up and did my projcet a different way

I remember looking at it when I had removed the upper console trim (when I removed the gauge cluster), and I don't remember seeing any obvious mounting hardware.

I guess I'll take a look at the Haynes manual though.

Yes, its screwed on. Mines been giving me trouble as well -- the sidekick makes a squeal when the charger is put to it, and I believe the cigarette lighter to be the source of its power fluctuations.

Just get in the dash and replace it. A good 90mins with your car, and you've learned something, and replaced a part. I'm the idiot around here -- if I can do this, yall can too.

Thanks, Tristan. Where exactly are the mounting screws? How do you access them?

If you take the kick panel off, (driver's knee - knocker) and reach up and around, the screw (phillips head) should be on the left. I believe there is just one. . .

. . . Feeling. . ..

Yeah, just one.

Will, I'm glad you really do think I'm an idiot. I can't wait to surprise you later. :)

Thanks for that, I kind of gave up on figuring out how to replace my now defunct lighter on my old SS after about 5 minutes of messing with it ;)
