Right on Phil. I'm shure you knew I didn't really know the details, just a little logic with some speculation :?

I'm glad to hear the R160 can hold up. When I can get a nice one like a Cusco, I was hoping the axelshafts would be the "shear pin," so to speak. Replacing a $90 half-shaft is better than a $1k diff.

r160's are weak. People that convert subarus with r160's break the diffs quickly. Like a few days to a week. Apparently it's wheel hop that's the main killer.

If you want a reliable RWD, go with an r200 at least.

Hardy is right-on. The R160 ISN'T very strong. If you can control wheel-hop, it'll last a little longer, but otherwise, it's pretty weak.

It's just like the RA gearset, it's not THAT strong, but SOME people can make it last.

I'm hoping to make mine last at least the 3 weeks I'll be RWD.

I don't intend to do lots of high-grip launches, but I do intend to kick it around a bit.

arent there a lot of people running around 300hp through R-160's in datsun 510s? makes me think that the weight of subies is the big killer for the diffs. legacy=3000ish, datsun =2100ish
R200's are out of rwd maximas and 300zx's right?

1.1*current FD. If you are using a WRX transmission, that's the formula. A 3.9 turns into a 4.29.

If using a Legacy Turbo tranny, final drive stays the same.

How much work is it to change out the center diff and pull the axels to go rwd?

Like Ive mentioned in other threads, the four wheel dyno is a looooong way away, and I'd like an option to do crude tuning locally after minor mods.

It's troublesome. You leave the front axles in. Plus, a RWD tune would be different than an AWD tune.

Truthfully, it's worth the drive for a good tune.
