Post by 92whitelegacy »

yea like it says....i goto m.e.p.s on thursday and swear in and shit, then ill know when im off too b.c.t. Im choosing ah-74 mechanics or non-tracked vehicles, as an MOS. im lookin at a bonus in the range of 10grand or somthing. :D Not to mention VALUABLE mechanics training and combat expertise.

So wish me luck. Keep me in your prayers if you do that sort of thing. 8)

cool man, Ive been considering that too.
be ready to field wrench on some messed up ass humvees with a leatherman, hammer, and duct tape. and from what I understand, most humvees are driven like they were a rental.
above all, STAY SAFE! godspeed.

yeah, it's likely you'll be doing a lot more than just working on humvees. But if you do go through with it, good luck to yah and come back safe.

Have you looked at the Air Force? I've been in almost 5 years. For quality of life, the AF can't be beat. I'm a Crew Chief, I fix jets for a living ;)

15's or 16's?, I'm a 16CC myself. 92, are you looking Active Duty? As a Nat. Guard guy I'd most definitely recommend looking into the guard. The 111th in PA has A-10’s:

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay cooler than Humvees. AD is what some people really want, but I lost count of how many guys in basic and tech school who signed up AD and were pissed they didn't know about the guard. Also, talk to somebody who has been through what you are signing up for. You are in for a wicked surprise if you are eating the crap the recruiter is spitting out. For example, you do know they take a huge chunk of taxes out of that bonus and it’s paid out over a few years. I’d imagine the recruiter has you thinking you get a check after taking the oath. And for god sake NEVER say, “but my recruiter said…” Good luck with whatever, I’d be happy to answer any other questions here/pm/email.

I would have joined up but I missed the boat, now I'm too old. I'm glad I didn't though because I know a lot of vets that aren't so well off.

92whitelegacy- Oh yeah, and if $6k is all you're getting, you're getting the shaft. I've seen Army bonuses up to $20k.

And I got $5k when I signed up for 6 years in the AF :p

I definately woulda held out for more.

I've considered joining the armed forces, but I'd get my ass kicked. I'm a lover not a fighter.

Plus, I wouldn't be able to join the Air Force, so I won't even be able to do what I'd want to do. Pilot aircraft.

Having a G.E.D limits your bonus options significantly. Now having said that if i woulda went airborne i coulda got 14g's, but its obious why. That shit is WAY more dangerous...they are offering up to like 40g's for explosive ordanace disposal....wonder why....wait no i dont...I.E.D's :?
