What sensor is this? Vacuum line routing?

Post by my3awds »

Can anyone identify what sensor this is? It's out of an n/a 1.8 and I imagine it would be in the n/a legacy as well. Can't seem to find a vacuum diagram for the n/a models so I thought I'd ask. Also I'm not sure if the top bung goes to the intake hose or not.

It's a pressure exchange solenoid. It's used to switch from what looks like manifold vacuum to atmospheric pressure.

Is there a second hose that attaches to the solenoid?

That looks like the pressure sensor.

In the Turbos, that is paired with a metal cylinder looking thing which is the boost control solenoid.

Many NAs used pressure exchange solenoids for emissions purposes.
