Junkyard struts work so good.

Struts, spring, anti-rollbars, braces and the like.

Junkyard struts work so good.

Post by mcmillonbe »

After spending nearly $300 for the struts/springs and struts bearings for the front of the old wagon, the rear struts were in serious need for replacement.
I went to local u pull it yard and found some struts off a 96 outback, 15 minutes and $30 later, I had what I thought would be direct replacements. Well, the tophats didnt match so instead of fighting with a spring compressor, I found some rear struts off a 99 OBS which were a direct replacement.
The ride now is so much better although the rear dropped about 1". I guess after these used struts wear out, Ill install the outback struts so the back end will be a bit higher than stock.
I love junkyards, especially when they have so many parts, ill be going back on Wednesday to take some outback seats, $10 a piece.

Any more junkyard suspension pieces that would be a direct fit on a Legacy and would give it some height? I'll pay you back for 'em if you can find 'em! I need a higher than stock ride height... high as possible.

Haven't found a Legacy junkyard around here yet. No Subarus whatsoever in the 'yards so far.

You're in the wrong part of nevada. Sparks and Carson City PNP's are loaded with subarus.

Ah, hadn't ventured out to that area yet. Thanks!

(I still wouldn't know what to look for in the suspension area yet anyway though...)

Put a set of Outback or Forester springs in you legacy, it will raise the height considerably.

Yeah, I think I need the struts too, along with a lot of other support parts... hope I can find a mostly intact Outback out there for stripping.
