Engine RPM drop as you hit accelerator

Post by pcchad »

Ever since I bought my 91 RS EJ20T it has had a slight issue, of kind of trying to stallout as I take off and also between gear changes the engine dies off as you put your foot back down then kicks into life.

Now it is about to get a full eng recondition as the local subaru outfit it has tested it and think it has a stuck or bent Valve in No3 cylinder as comperssion is down a bit.
So it idles like shit, but goes like a wee rocket once your crusing. I have turned up the idle so the body doesnt rock while sitting at the lights :D

I thought this RPM drop may be because of the low compression in No3 ,
but latley I have noticed while its sitting out of gear idling as I put my foot gently down on the accelerator I hear a quiet clicking sound from under the dash about knee hight of my accelerator foot, and if I hold my foot in the right spot it clicks away like mad like its shorting out, is there a switch of some kind up there and can it affect my RPM??
Regards....PC Chad

I have the SAME thing with the lag in BUT not clicking sound. The problems could be none to do with each other. But what I do get is a sandy "tishing" sound out of my turbo under load at about 3000-3500 RPM. I will look for that clicking sound tho. How much did they quot you for the work?
