Info Needed: WRX to Legacy Front Brake Conversion

Is there a write-up out there on the parts needed and the installation procedure?

All you need is the WRX caliper bracket to clear the larger rotor. Finding a used WRX caliper and bracket usually isn't hard since they all do big breake kits also. Or $80 from the dealership each

. Install the rotor & caliper just like the old one came off. You'll need 16" wheels to clear, also.

To clarify, you are asking about installing WRX front brakes onto a legacy, right?

I'm pretty sure you do need the WRX caliper as well. I don't think the stock caliper will fit onto the WRX bracket.

Yes...Wrx front brakes, caliper and rotor, on a legacy turbo. I wasn't sure if I needed anything other than the caliper and the rotor, and of course, 16" wheels.

nope....just rotor, calipers, brackets, and of course larger wheel.

There are bias issues too that may come up......but depending on how picky you are about your brakes, you may not notice it.

Heck, I'm too used to sliding around in the dirt and snow in my brat. Running unrated tires all-year round. I'm more rally than road. I hate that it is so difficult to get my back end out on the legacy. Heavy handed front brakes unloading the rear end is right up my alley.

Yeah.....my car is definitely more of an on-road setup. I want to step on the brakes, throw people through the front windshield and have the car not get squirmy.

Right now with my setup.....I pretty much have that......

How different are our calipers with the 2.5rs's? I hear all they have to do is get the rotors and the brackets.

I'm not exactly sure. I think the caliper piston size is the same, but as for how it mounts to the bracket......if it similar to the early legacy calipers, you will need the 2.5 RS calipers to match its bracket.

Also....I sorta seem to think the 2.5 RS has the same size rotors as the turbo legacy..... I don't think you'd be gaining much braking increase with the RS brakes.

I don't think i phrased my question exactly how I wanted it answered. Still talking about the WRX conversion, the only thing the RS boys have to do is buy the bigger rotors and the bracket that the calipers mount to. I was wondering how much different our calipers are from the RS. If they are similar, why not just buy the rotors and brackets from a WRX? I think that is a little better.

There is conflicting info on whether our calipers will work or not. I think you'll just have to borrow a WRX or RS bracket and see if your caliper will fit. Then you will be able to give us a definite answer.

But finding WRX calipers shouldn't be too hard since everyone is trying to upgrade to 4-pot or larger. I got mine (caliper + bracket) for $40 shipped.

I looked at the manual.....they are different. Our's uses a guide pin at the top that the caliper slides on, and a bolt on the bottom.

The WRX caliper bracket has two guide pins that bolt onto the bracket.

Once again Legacy777 is right on. Rears for the WRX are the same way. The RS calipers are the SAME as the "older" WRX calipers, they use the same pads.

Now the problem is that they released a new caliper for the WRX which uses different pads. What MY is the WRX setup your using from?
