shifting problem in 90 wagon please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i have a fwd auto legacy and in january i had a problem, the trany wasn't shifting into 2 or any other gear. A tech told me it was the speed sensor that broke inside and that they have to open it up for service, i went looking for other posibilities and found a 96' fwd trany and all the plugs fitted it went in like if it were the original one but when i got it out of the garage for a test drive it did the same $h@# is not shifting i am going to change the computer because a friend told me it was because the ecu is in limp mode. i want to know if there could be something else that could be causing this shifting problem if anybody has info help because i miss driving in my wagon.

pulled the codes
it says 11,12,13,14 and 15 all solenoid codes but it can't be because is a new tranny and the same thing happened with the old tranny do you think it can be the computer

Have you tried resetting the ECU & TCU?
Pull fuse 14 EGI/TCU for an hour.

Well then, you either have lots of solenoid issues, or more likely, the wiring harness is bad somewhere.
Test transmission wiring harness from the TCU to the connector in the engine bay for continuity, and then check the transmission harness to the solenoids (this will require dropping the trans pan. Or you can just test the resistance of the solenoid to see if its what it should be.
Other then that, I'm out of ideas.

Dont you have some transmission specification guide to check specs for the solenoids.

No offense man but this isn't rent a mechanic, we can tell you what to look for, but doing the work and getting you every little information is not something we can do.Arturo wrote:Dont you have some transmission specification guide to check specs for the solenoids.
You can buy the subaru specific mechanics manual from the dealer for about $200 that will tell you exactly what to do, and then some.
Your best bet with the number of problems and codes this one is throwing is to take it to a mechanic.

There is probably something in the manuals, however I don't have access to it right now, and I've been sick and traveling.
I will help in whatever way I can, but there are limitations to what myself and others can do.
I would really recommend purchasing a set of factory manuals. They are invaluable when working on your car.
Hopefully this doesn't come across in a bad way or like we don't want to help, because it's not. People have lives and other things going on that consume their time.
