Wiring a DIS-2

Post by sammydafish »

Can't believe I can't find a thread on this. Anyway, I did it pretty late last night and I'm not sure what a I did wrong. Now that I think about it, I probably don't have it in wasted spark mode and that's all that's wrong. I'm at work now though, so It'll have to wait until later to figure out. I did a search though, and came up with this image http://www.graphics.cornell.edu/~v/pics ... wiring.png

Is this right? I tested the coil to have power to the center pin and the triggers on either side. That doesn't agree with this image. If I were to have wired it wrong, I'm not sure how it would even run. The car runs fine, the DIS-2 just sees double the RPM, so my rev limiter is only 3250rpm instead of 6500. This is what makes me think it's simply not in wasted spark mode. I'm almost positive I set the first dial to position 1, but maybe I didn't.

so I was just a dumbass as I suspected and had the dial set to position 0 wich is not for wasted spark. Switched it to 1 and it's awesome now.

BTW, that image that I posted is wrong. I've seen it posted a few times in different threads. The correct wiring is exactly how it's shown in the DIS-2 manual.

Glad you got it figured out.

What's the mistake in that diagram?

the diagram shows coil positive on the pin to the right and the triggers as the left and center pin. The actual pinout is the left and right pins are triggers and the center pin is power.

Oh. I guess that's unclear... the diagram isn't meant to indicate pinouts, just wire colors. In fact, it's not meant to be specifically about our cars. I just took it out of the manual from MSD and edited it a little to simplify it.

power wise, not really, but then again, I still have a lot of tunning to do. I don't have enough fuel to support my boost right now, so until I fix that I can't get any more power anyway.

one thing I did notice is that the car is much much smoother and quieter. I have solid motor mounts, so I get, well got quite a bit of engine vibration through the chasis. Now with the DIS-2, it's almost odd how much less there is. I really don't even notice it at all. The engine note is quieter too.

I haven't stayed out of the pedal enough to really see what it did for economy, but laying in the boost pretty often I'm still maintaining about 27mpg, so I'm excited to see what it will do when I grandma it for a tank.

It shouldn't.

I didn't need one with mine. I just tapped into the ignition leads.

msd dis-2

Ok guys, my MSD dis-2 is in!
First of all so I didn't have to cut factory wires I got another coil pack plug harness off another old Legacy. Wiring was straightforward following the manual.
Unfortunately, I had ta mount it by hanging it underneath the Front upper strut tower brace w/ big ol' zip ties yikes I hope it holds
anyway for my BF I set switch dial #1 to position 1
since I didn't even hook-up the pink wire, no need to set the Step Retard dials. Same with the Blue wire which I didn't hook-up either so I didn't need to set the RPM 2 step dials either.
On the way home from work it 'stumbled' @ about 4,800RPM so when I got home I reset the RPM Max Rev LIM to 6,900 RPM and now everything is GREAT!!!

The DIS-2 only has 2 channels. You might be able to do it with the DIS-4.
