Weight reduction... again

Post by Splinter »

Has anyone cut out chunks from the rear doors, trunk or hood, and reinforced them with fiberglass or tubing?

I took them off today and holy christ are they heavy, 50 lbs a piece easy

Uh, I'd like to see pics of your work if possible, that sounds neat.

Completely stripped the interior except for 2 sparco seats, sunroof out, AC system out, ABS out, sound deadening out, spare tire out, gastank replaced with fuel cell, stereo system out, rear seatbelts gone, trying to source JDM bumper beams

Don't bother with the JDM beams.
I had one and tinfoil is stronger.
You would be better to get another beam from a JY and cut it yourself.

The N/A and SS beams are the same.

You pretty much did all the major stuff; not much left to pull.

Yea, you got most of it. Only thing I can think of is remove your airbag system (if your 92 is so optioned, i don't remember it being so).

Other than that, cutting chunks out of the hood and rear doors and trunk is fine. Your caging it right? I'd find a junkyard car and cut the C pillars out of them. Just take the inner layer, chamfer it, weld it over your stock panel, then remove the speaker deck. You'd probably only lose a pound at best, but if every pound counts.

I recently traded my fixed mirror for someone's auto-dimming mirror so they could save weight. Net savings of 8.7oz for them, and it was worth it.
