Got mine in yesterday, more pictures here. It is true a stock 02-05 y-pipe would be very hard to make work since the elbow points are ~1" further apart. I was already using a moded Samco 02-05 y-pipe so it wasnt to tough to make work. With the passenger side connected to align with the compressor outlet i cut the drivers side of the y leaving ~1" of hose hanging past the elbow. I then got a 2" od exhaust pipe to sleeve in between the hose and give me the ~1.25" extension needed. Only other issues were moving the cruise control actuator a bit and some adjustment on the condenser tank position.

Runs much smoother without that big piece of aluminum banging on the firewall. I dont have it mounted at all right now. The hoses are able to hold it in position with no problems. Well worth the effort for anyone thinking of doing it

please more pics....... (worth 1000.... well, you know)

thank you for the first!!!! :)

Haha, threw them in the trash after i got the car and found out the bearings on the pump were bad, the system leaked, and was empty. But i dont think you would have any problems putting it below the pitch stop or even above it like you would with a 02-05 TMIC.

The Samco pipe. I had already modified it to work with our intake manifolds since it places the end of the y a few inches behind where our turbo outlet sits. This was done with a 1-7/8" OD exhaust pipe sleeve placed in the straight section. I then found a 1-7/8" ID 90* radiator hose to go from the turbo to IC. This size is for TD04/TD05 outlets and will not work with the VF11 without a reducer. You can see it on the right of the IC to TB outlet.

Now to make this thing work with the 06 it needed one of the elbow hoses extended since the elbow mounts are ~1" further apart, as you can see here For whatever reason this hose is 2" ID instead of the 1-7/8" on the turbo outlet side. So all you need is a 2" OD sleeve and some hose clamps.

The only thing which concerned me was how close the pipe sits to the intercooler, seen here, but i dont think its going to be an issue.
As for mounting it is just hanging out. the Silicon hoses are enough to hold it in place and it doesnt rattle against anything. I may devise some mounting brackets at some point.

Prodrive FXT silicone y pipe

Post by kleinkid »

Blackbart can get you one of the offset MC reservoirs.

I bought a Prodrive FXT y pipe to go on my '06 FXT IC instead of using an 02 Samco WRX y pipe. The elbow that connects to the turbo on the FXT y pipe sits about 2" aft of the turbo. I am thinking about cutting the leg that goes to the turbo at its straight section , and using two metal couplers and a hump hose to get the elbow forward enough to get on the installed VF-12.

So it looks like if you use the WRX silicone y pipe you have to splice it at two places. One leg to get it on the IC and another leg to get it on the turbo. I have to mull this over a bit. I don't want to not plan properly at this point and mess up this Prodrive y pipe. The two legs that go on the IC sure fit up nice, though.

EDIT update: The angle of the leg on the FXT y pipe that goes to the turbo is different than the WRX y pipe. Adding the hump hose, or a straight section to that leg will not work. It would put the end of the hose to far outboard of the turbo. So it looks like I will have to make the WRX hose work.

I picked up my 06 tmic and I managed to get mine in (minus the issue with the MC reservoir). I used the stock 06 plastic y pipe and cut it at where the y goes into one piece. I used a heat gun to stretch out the plastic a bit and get a piece of exhaust pipe inside of it. Then I took a piece of 90 degree rad. hose for my turbo outlet (I have a VF8).

I looked at that prodrive pipe as well, and I couldn't see myself cutting a 120 dollar part. I can however justify buying a used 02 pipe off of nasioc and cutting the hell out of it.

I'll post a pic of my setup when I get home.

So, you like the '02-'05 TMIC better than the '06 because of fit or it cools better, both, or other reasons?

There is no way the 02-05 fits better.... It definately has a larger capacity though and should technically have a better cooling affect...

I actually just installed my 06 tmic - the worst part about installing it is the piping.... The fit is virtually perfect.

A/C hose fits perfectly under the i/c. Just waiting for my silicone elbows to arrive so I can get rid of the restrictive metal elbows I *MADE* out of straight pipe I had laying around....

I used 02-05 WRX Perrin i/c silicone kit and only needed to add one pipe extension on the turbo side. Plan careful when cutting for the extension is all I can say, thankfully the silicone is pliable. Frantic Four used the Prodrive FXT i/c silicone kit doing the same and theirs seemed to install easier.

You know I've heard this from more than one person - the FXT is a little longer for some reason to go with the slightly wider spaced outlets of the later IC design?

Let me know if anyone has any further insight...

Thanks!!!
