Post by Radial GT1 »

So I am springing for new rims, they are for a 2002 wrx. Will the offset fit on my 93 SS?

That's pretty shallow.....If I had to guess....I'd say you'll rub on the rear fender lip....

I am looking at this aftermarket rims website. discoun tire and all their rims have a crazy offset. The highest i found was a 42mm offset. I read in a search that a 48 is perfect? Where are those rims at?

contact luke@tirerack on nasioc and he can get you other wheels that fit. Also subydude.com sells rotas, which are available in Subaru sizes. Or get a set of used subaru wheels. 06 WRX, 04 STi, and 05+ LGT 17" wheels all fit and look pretty good.

Offset 53 is the only perfect size!!!

48-55 will do. Don't go lower or higher, it drives like hell

The right offset also depends on wheel width. A wider wheel needs less positive offset to place the center of the wheel in line with the center of the bearing.

From nasioc:

Width .... Offset

6.5" ....... +53 to +55
7.0" ....... +50 to +53
7.5" ....... +47 to +50
8.0" ....... +43 to +47

:? This is NOT true.

A 7" wheel is on both sides 0.5" wider than a 6" wheel!
Someone posted this list on a dutch Subaruclub site, and this really is not true.
The OEM STI MY01-MY04 wheels are 53, with a 7,5" wheel. :!:

not to hijack the post but would the 38mm wheels work on a 90 awd wagon?

Just thought I would bump this back to life with a question. I am thinking about getting some new rims, the ones I was looking at were:

17X7 5X100/114.3 +42 with
215/40R17 tires

From what I've read these should fit without rubbing, just wanting to double check before comiting.

THAT is not true.

It depends on the wheel.

I know for a fact because I can buy tubbed out wheels for my TA that go way further outward than inward so they dont hit suspension components
