What happens if you dump the clutch with a 550 torque plate?

Post by douglas vincent »

You lose first. Badly.

So the story is kinda funny.....

I roll up for my last run of the night. It would NOT have been the last run as I wanted the previous run to be my last run, but I missed 2nd and was shooting for the damn 12.999.

So I roll up to the lights, open my door and shake hands with the control guy and say "Thank alot! Have a great winter!" Then I roll up to the line, line up, rev up, drop the clutch and !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I roll off the line barely, get it into 2nd and continue down the line. But obviously not fast. I make it to the end, turn off and look under the hood. Nothing obvious. Try the gears. Stuck, but I am able to mess with the shifter long enough to get the transmission into 2nd and roll out of PIR. I am damned if I am going to get towed! I get on the freeway, shift to fifth and cruise! The noise is weird, not a single vibration that you can feel, but a nasty loose rattle that is rhythimic to the rpm....

So I make it about 15 miles or so back to the shop and am finally able to try 1st.

NOPE. All it does is "CRRRRRRRRRRRRRR". Good thing I have an extra tranny or two! And alot of downtime... haha. Although it is getting to be a bitch pulling the motor because there is so much crap in the engine bay now. haha.

But the good news?

I drove home again, for the 4th time, when I have suffered catastrophic damage (three blown pistons, and now the tranny).

And the better news? The new motor, with 150 miles or so on it, did a best of 13.1 @ 105 mph at only 14 psi!

So, is that the first transmission you've blown? Isn't that the tranny you've been beating on for a long time now?

3 time, but same tranny case all three times.

1st time, I lost 2nd on a BAAAAAAD mishift from 1st to 2nd getting into traffic.

2nd time, I lost 3rd shifting out of 4th on the freeway.

3rd time, I lost 1st drag racing.

The 2nd and 3rd time, yes.

But only the 3rd time was due to POWAH!!!!!

The 2nd breakage I suspect was due to a loose piece of tooth getting sucked up into the tranny....

13.1, that's a fast old wagon!

Funny that this is your first trans failure from dragging.

What do you do for engine break-in to go racing with only 150 miles on it? Or is that the break-in?
