My 240 and 260Z's had little lights on the inside passenger fender with a ~six foot cord that you could pull out and hold like a flashlight. I always thought that was a great idea. Unfortunately, with the 260, I needed to use it too often.
Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.
I guess nowadays, with the exception of the occasional poser guy pretending to know what he's looking at when a chick is around, it's mainly just mechanics that look under the hood and they have their own lights.

I wonder how many modern guys have stood there opening and closing the hood on their new car tring to figure out if the light goes out when its shut... like they do when they get a microbrew outta their fridge.
