I heard from a friend on nasioc that it may flow so much air so that the wastegate cannot keep up and pass enough exhaust gas through it to keep boost stable.

You hear a lot of things on Nasioc that aren't true.

If you are making boost, it's as easy as opening the solenoid to blow the wastegate all the way open. It's a LOT easier for exhaust gas to exit the wastegate than it is for it to route through the turbine.

I wouldn't be concerned at all about uncontrollable boost when the cutout is open.

Your boost controller would have to be reacting extremely slow for that to happen. Might happen if you have a MBC like mine...maybe if the atmospheric hole was clogged up...maybe...but then you probably wouldn't have control at all anyway.

Thats a lot of maybes...

It is true, and I argue with them. Then I get flamed and told my engine is going to blow up so I just like to double check with people who know what the hell they are talking about (you guys). Thanks for always being there to correct nasioc and the fears it induces :P

So, the cutout has been ordered and shipped and I just bought a Tsudo 3" catless bellmouth downpipe made for the 02 wrx. I can't wait to install the cutout right after my downpipe, have that catless 3" exhaust sound when open, then stock catted exhaust when closed. Truely the best of both worlds!

In the RX7 world. If you modify the exhaust, you have to port your wastegate exit port. Or you WILL get boost creep. The piston engine must have less air flow than a rotary engine to not need doing such a mod. Or is that not the case here? To say it does not need to be done ever (as the way you make it sound) does not apply to all situations. :smt065

The cutout sounds like a sweet deal for a little kick in the ass every now and again.

It's all in the turbine housing design. Some turbos creep because the wastegate is innefficient. It happens on STi's with uncorked exhausts.

While you may creep a few PSI, a good boost controller limits that SIGNIFICANTLY, if not totally. Saying that you'll lose all control of boost with a cutout is ridiculous, and false.

Wait...You can buy one of these in a catologue? Can someone post a link to one that would work with 3"exhaust?

T-Korn, Thanks for posting - can you add more photos of how this is controled in the car? Hit a button? What?

This would be very cool and am about to do my exhaust...

ok update.

I just got my Y pipe installed on the end of a 4" bellmouth 3" catless downpipe, the other side of the y pipe is my stock exhaust with a cat. When closed it sounds stock with a little more turbo noise and open it is just silly. Ill try and get a video.

B-series honda 38mm external waste-gate (7 psi spring) - wastegate piped back into exhaust = 7 psi, dump tube on w/g = 11psi.

Stock 4G63 Galant VR4 TD05 14B, 9 psi on stock exhaust - 3" TBE = 14psi.

Opening exhausts can definately cause increases in boost, but I did not see any boost increase when I went from stock to 3" catless TBE on my SS (factory boost sol. hooked up).

Sorry if I sound ignorant, but how does this work exactly? I can understand everything except how you open the valve.

Thanks.

Correct. N/A cars are very happy with at least some back pressure. This is what gives you some of your torque factor. No restriction can equal lost torque.
