I have kits from cooling mist available from Innovative Tuning (who are members of this board & helpful) on my cars.

The Starlet has a really old 60psi system that was on my Impreza @ 1 time with a 10 GPH jet, Impreza kit is an old 100psi system with a 6GPH jet, while the SS kit is the newer 150psi kit with a 4GPH jet.

The 150psi kit made power output unpredictable without a controller (I guess the pump is too big), but I got a deal on a Devils Own controller for $60 complete with 3bar MAP sensor to fix everything up.

You could probably piece together a kit very cheaply as this is what the GN guys used to do back in the day (companies copied their "kit" parts-list & started selling complete kits for $200-500+).

I saw PacmanSTi's post (37X HP...@28psi) a while back & did not remember him saying what turbo he had.
I thought he had a 50trim t3/t4 for some reason.

Here is a link to a Forester owner comparing a VF39 to a TD04 on his car.
http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin ... 78&page=23

1/4 mile performance improved by .1 seconds.
Not a big enough difference to justify the additional cost ($300-350 for a used VF39) in my book.

I'm old & everthing is fuzzy, but I remember reading that the VF39 flowed about 405CFM @ 1bar of boost.

If that is true a TD05-14b off an eclipse/GVR4 flows exactly the same amount of air (405cfm / 1 bar boost) for $70-100.
Flanges for the up & Down pipe are available from Road Race Engineering for $40.
This stock turbo can push a heavy GVR4 into the 12s (Garage ported 25psi tapering to 18psi @ redline (7600RPM)).

I extrapolated using tire circumference:

In 1st the '94 SS has a lower overall ratio
Every revolution of the engine results in 5.52167 inches of tire travel.

In 1st the '05 LGT results in 5.9619 inches of travel.

Second is very close:
10.0532 for SS; 10.0294 for LGT

Not that it matters, but found it interesting.

Got the flywheel in the car this weekend and did a thorough check of what's needed. Still overboosting and hitting fuel cut. Will have to get the boost gauge in and diable the pressure switch. Looks like the wastegate is failing to open.

Can you force the wastegate open by hand?

I tried, albeit without trying to use too much force and no, I can't. I could plug the pressure hose directly to the wastegate and see if it is just the solenoid.

Yeah, try that.

On my turbo I can open the wastegate by grabbing the bar that connects the wastegate actuator to the wastegate...

It should be easy to move if it's unhooked from the actuator. If you have to pull against the actuator spring it'll take significant force to move it, but you should still be able to move it.

My buddy is working on this in his SS, but if you feel balsy, it could work for you. He's installing a GT3782 VNT out of an '06 Powerstroke. Baldturbofreak had one on his 2.0L WRX and could make 15psi at 3kRPM. Thats a lot of air moving with that turbo. Anyways, with a little digging, that turbo can be had for under $400. It takes a decent electronic boost controller and the ford solenoid to run the VNT part.

Just thinking out loud....

Ya, it was a non ball bearing 50 trim, of some sort. That was also on a 3:1 mix of 100 octane to 93.

In a week and a half I'm going to drive down to P&L and have Jorge have a crack at my car. Finally we'll see what I'm laying down. I've been spooling to 28psi and tapering down to 22 psi at redline with my bastard-child turbo which is inbetween a GT2871R and a GT3071R.

^ correct, the 6.0L ones. You are also right about VNT. The housing varies from about a .4 A/R to something over 1.0 A/R. You've probably heard one on the road. They are seriously loud with a shriek.

If it works well it should be pretty wicked. He rebuilds tranny's for a living, so he's also working on making his auto hold up to the abuse.

There is debate in other car circles whether or not the vanes will hold up to the 1600 degree abuse of a gas engine. The guy that was using it on his WRX didn't have any trouble in the 2000 miles he was using it before he popped the motor. Some say that they get full of carbon and lock up, but I say BS. Diesels put out ALOT of carbon.

When he gets it going in the next couple months I'll let everyone know how well it works.

the ej22t heads are capable of running 11's as some dude from NY ran a gt35r on a stock ej22t long block..no reason why a td04 cant spool a 2.2t to 13's when a 1.8 with ej22e heads ran low 13's before..

I think the ej22t/GT35R guys are INNOVATIVE TUNING.

That setup started out in a Legacy & got swapped into a Impreza.
