The jackstand question!

Post by Fkyx »

You've all heard it before, I'm sure. I couldn't find anything really definitive. I realize you can jack the car up underneath the rocker panel, but where would you guys suggest I put jack stands to get the maximum amount of space underneath the car?

If anyone has any photos of their cars on jackstands, that'd be great to see, too. I'm not entirely familiar with the underside of my car yet.

Jack the car up from the large bolt that holds the subframe and then put jackstands under the rocker panel where the normal jack point is. Be careful not to bend the triangle metal piece that bolts to the body.

Don't jack or support the car by the rear differential unless you want to damage your bushings.

uh oh :o How difficult are they to replace ? Only reason that would happen is because they are old but im sure now i should replace them.

ive always put it on the rear diff and front jacking plate, then i put the stands under the rocker panel. i go off the rear diff so i can lift the whole rear end up at once

if your talking about the bushings im thinking of, then it is a BIOTCH to replace. Ive never replaced mine, but i had it out when i replaced the subframe.
I had the axles, control arms, spindles and rear diff all bolted together and i was trying to get it back into the subframe and bolt the diff back up to the bushings, by myself. I was getting pissed off for a little, but i finaly got it in.
Next time i ever have to do that i will take all the crap off the diff before hand, it would be MUCH easier to handle.
