Fill UR own mounts?

Post by New92 »

So has anyone tried to use the windshield urethane trick? I used it on my old neon but was curious if the results are similar on these much older chassis. I know of old school drag guys that will use nothing else and am curious if there is anybody out there using this in the ol'tleg.
Thanks.

Subaru sells hardened mounts that aren't very expensive. Because of it no one has had to create their own.

Works like a charm in the transmission mount since there are several voids to fill. You'll need almost one full tube to do the tranny mount alone.

Subaru engine mounts do not have enough voids to make a difference.

I need to do this for the sissy Mazda. The liquid-filled control arm bushings always felt wussy, but now the car has weird issues while cornering that can only be the problematic Ford bushings. The motor mounts are a known issue and nobody makes aftermarket urethane parts. If only Subarus didn't get so damned ugly and heavy...

Something to note, I put duct tape one one side of the mount and then squirted the window weld in. Strangely enough, after 2 days the side with the tape was still gummy. I removed the tape and waited another day. Still gummy. I used goo gone to remove the left over duct tape sticky residue and by the end of the day all parts of the mount were solid.

I don't suggest using duct tape, but try using something to make sure the poly doesn't flow out the other side.

Where are you getting this stuff? I tried looking for it a few years back, and none of the local places had it...

It probably didn't help that I wasn't exactly sure what to ask for...

Me - Yeah, I'm looking for a windshield adhesive that I can use to firm up my tranny mount

AZ guy - We have this stuff to re-attach your rear view mirror...

Advanced Auto has it. It's called 3M Window Weld. Comes in a caulking tube. Costs about 9 bucks.

THanks for that tip. I think Ill try wax paper then tape that to the mount.

I've actually got some 80 durometer stuff I bought back when. If you want it, make me an offer.
