The Legacy Sport Sedan electronic transmission is uprated to handle increased torque. Changes include a larger microprocessor-controlled lock-up torque converter which controls lock-up in second, third, and fourth gear;
Is this true? I read on one of Josh's scans that they changed the shift mapping for the 92-up transmissions, raising shift points and modifying lockup. And my wife's 91 L definitely gets into 4th locked much more readily than my '93 L did or my '93 TW does. But I've never experienced any locking outside of overdrive on any Subby. But then again, I've never ridden in a '91 turbo.
If I could swap in a '91 turbo TCU and get 2nd/3rd lockup that'd be freakin' sweet. I've already been kind of itching for a '90/'91 TCU just for the earlier overdrive lockup.

I'd definitely try it if I ever came accross a '91 SS in the 'yard (I have better chances of winning the lottery, though). My main question was if anyone with a 4EAT '91 SS knows if it actually locks up in 2nd and 3rd. Otherwise, I can just go after any '90/'91 TCU for the earlier 4th lockup.

I have a '90 TCU from an NA and another TCU from a turbo wagon. I drove them back to back, and there didn't seem to be much of a difference. This was only on dry roads, and only with NA torque being put through an NA 4EAT.
I'll sell you both TCUs if you want to experiment!
