boost gauge question

Post by letsridestreet »

hey guys so i recently purchased a 1993 turbo wagon. And ive done some minor things from help of subarunation. but my question is i put on eBay boost controller and then i bought a boost gauge. And i hooked the boost gauge to a vacuum line of the intake and the gauge was going crazy then i thought i would splice it into the boost control line that runs of the outlet of the turbo i did that and everything is good now. But will this effect what i have the boost controller set at will make to much boost or less boost or will it do nothing. I'm new to this turbo stuff.

Thanx Kasey

cheap boost gauge it sounds like and if it's going to crazy you have a leak

It's best if you put the gauge off the manifold - that way you are getting a better reading of what the engine sees.

If you put a boost controller on without any other mods, keep it at a reasonable level, like 10 PSI.

If you want a decent quality gauge, I've got a good quality Stewart Warner vacuum/boost gauge that reads to 15PSI which is perfect for stock levels for sale cheap.

?? your gauge should NOT effect your boost, just tell you what it is.If your gauge is effecting boost than either you put it on wrong or there is a leak somewhere...or both.

we just need more details,

i.e the boost controller you bought, do you have a link to it, electric or manual. also pics of how you have it setup can be helpful.

a cheap boost gauge will bounce like crazy especially when teed into a vacuum line off the intake runners because your valves are opening and closing. it will bounce way less off the turbo nipple.

however if you have leaks, it will also contribute to a bouncing boost gauge.

If the whole point of having a boost gauge is for tuning/monitoring purposes, then going straight to the turbo outlet doesn't help much.....

look on nasioc, also go to the library and look at matt's vacuum bypass, you will get a few extra pounds if you tee off an intake runner, however it is not as consistent as off the turbo.

If you override the stock Boost control solenoid by disconnecting those vac. lines that lead to it, but NOT unplugging the solenoid, you can then run a vac. line from the turbo outlet directly to the wastegate. You can then T into that for your MBC.

Only one nipple gets used on the MBC this way, the other is just used as a bleeder.

If you want pics, I could take some for you to give you an idea.
