sudden>failure - Audio/Video

Post by N1446 »

- fueled up , hardcore accel , engine failure
alt/batt need replacing

>now when running the motor the engine is making horrible noises above idle , i suspect lifters / valves etc

?when the alt is replaced will these symptoms go away or is this more of a timing issue ?

-i added seafoam to the crankcase with no results in the level of noise comming from the motor

i dont believe the sound is rod-knock , however the clacking is more apparent when the idle is pitched NOTE: Open Header is LOUD , when the idle drops it is simple to distinguish the difference[VIDEO] http://s209.photobucket.com/albums/bb30 ... CN0189.flv

um....if you're hearing horrible noises, I don't think any kind of miracle alternator is going to fix that.

A bad alternator could cause the drivability problems you described; ignition systems and fuel injectors do not like low voltage. An alternator with bad bearings can make some awful noises, but that'll be easy enough to confirm or deny...just remove the drive belt and run the motor for a moment.

if the timing belt has slipped , will it result in the clacking ?

i m contributing the bogging to the faulty alternator as you will see in the video all is fine while attached to the Jump vehicle aka KiV SpectraGSX

 [VIDEO]http://s209.photobucket.com/albums/bb30 ... CN0189.flvof the nasty noises

VALVETRAIN.

My car sounded like that on first start-up after motor assembly.

I'd suspect the lifters are collapsed, try changing your oil, maybe go a grade lighter... and/or add a couple of ounces of ATF or Marvel Mystery Oil to the crankcase, this helps sometimes to get the lifters pumped back up.

Any way of checking your oil pressure? Oil light on or flickering at any time?

Sounds OK otherwise, revs quickly, so your timing belt is probably good.

Not too much to go off of from that vid. Try a long screwdriver to help locate the noise; hold the end of the handle against your ear and touch the tip to different areas of the motor, that can help you figure out just where the sound is coming from.

Also, have you tried running the car without the alternator belt attached yet? (You'll want a good charge on the battery first.)

Sounds like lifters to me. Only makes that sound when there is no oil. I have experienced it before. SO I advice you to check your oil NOW.
