Also, what are the capacities, and recommended oil type? Any tricks etc?
Many thanks.
Where do I drain and add oil for a 93 legacy manual trans.?

To add fluid you remove the shift knob and add fluid there. For oil I recommend corn or canola, but stay away from peanut oil. Godspeed Dingo.

Drain plug's on the bottom, toward the front of the trans, right above the exhaust manifolds.
Use a new drain plug gasket. Subaru part # 803926070.
Dipstick is on passenger side of trans, back of engine bay, close to firewall. This is where you fill it as well. Funnel sold separately.
Regular old 75W90 gear oil will work. 3.7 quarts roughly, depending on FWD or AWD. Do NOT put 4 quarts in. Put 3 in first and measure it.
Gear oil is the worst-smelling automotive fluid there is. You've been warned.
Happy wrenching.
