stabbing the throttle kills the car

Post by Skruyd »

Motor just put in. Installed a FMIC. Idles around 700 RPMs with 19psi vacuum. Slam on the throttle it kills the car. Bring it up slowly and it is just fine. I'm not doing anything else to the car till tomorrow. I have to replace the CEL bulb because it's not lighting up. All help is appreciated and no question to stupid.... I hope :-D

here is a pic of the madness

What do you mean by tweaked? Anyways, have a new knock sensor. when I hooked it up the wire broke. Took the pin out of the connector and crimped the wire on the pin. The shielding I didn't put in the connector only butted it up to it. Should I have ground the shielding or did I do it right?

by any chance do you know what the Ohms supposed to be for the wire? I'm thinking of just redoing the whole thing because it is tight and brittle. Ordered the coax, now I just need some pins.

I think there's a thread about that grounding on the knock senser somewhere around here. Someone had some problems with that.

Boost Leak.

I count 6 connectors that will be pressurized in the tiny bit of engine bay I can see.

I agree with the boost leak.

Do you have a boost gauge?

Borrow one if you have to.

When you have a leak, you can run it BELOW vacuum and you are fine, but when you hit boost, it will feel like you hit a wall.
Yes I have too many Subarus
No you can't have one

I couldn't find the post about the grounding on the knock sensor. By any chance do you remember the link?

Yup, six in the engine bay and five in the bumper, don't have my boost leak test cap anymore :( I guess I'll use some brake clean to check for the leaks.

Yup I have a boost gauge. It is hooked up between the BOV and the intake manifold.

Mmk, well I guess I'll go check all of this out. Thanks everyone

well I replace the bulb for the CEL and made another boost leak tester. Didn't check the codes yet but found where my boost leak was at. Basically the seals in the throttle body for the arm that holds the butterfly are leaking....BAD. I'm able to get the one on the cable side out but the one on the TPS side I would have to basically send it in to replace........ So, I'm wondering if anyone knows if I can get any TB of the Subarus and replace it. Just asking b/c the local pull-a-part has only one 92 legacy and a couple more other models. Thanks a bunch XD
