High boost on stock controller.

That spinning thing that makes all of the cool noises. OE and Aftermarket.

High boost on stock controller.

Post by klin7757 »

I recently changed over from my manual boost controller back to the stock system and found that I am sometimes spiking upwards of 15-16 lbs. It seems to run a consistent 10-12 lbs. at higher revs. I wanted to change back as I know the stock controller gives more consistent boost up to redline, but 15-16 is too high. Is there anything I can do? Oh I'm running a td-04. Thanks

What are you using to measure that boost level.

i'm using an autometer boost gauge, which i believe to be fairly accurate...maybe. i've only hit 15/16 once or twice before hearing some butt clenching tinging and letting off. i connected the wastegate directly to the compressor outlet and found that i would only get about 6 psi. with my manual boost controller set at 10 it also stays consistent. bad solenoid?

6psi on the stock TD04 wastegate actuator is low.. That's the VF11's.

I had an identical setup and ran an MBC and FCD. I ran 14 psi before the Revtronix chip install (now @ 17). Using my $15 NXS MBC I had consistent boost levels.

With the stock BCS I got boost creep up to 12-13 psi, which we attributed to (I think) my bellmouth downpipe/3" TBE.

Josh suggested I test my WG actuator w/a pump, and it was set to 10psi, which was the lowest I got running straight from the WG - 10 psi. This was w/the newer '06+ WG actuator. The older TD04's were higher.

From where RU reading boost?

ah ha! i just had a thought that may just explain my issue. the FCD i'm running is the el cheapo check valve trick. if the map is reading lower boost levels than are actually present then the solenoid would respond with higher boost. i'll check this out and report back.
