I am running my hybrid EJ25 setup in my Outback off an EJ22T ECU. I was wondering what the rev limit is because I feel like a rev limiter kicks in before the redline on my tach (1997 Outback gauge cluster).
An idea came to me today that my valvesprings could be worn out causing them to float at ~5800-6000 rpm and not letting me get to the full 6500. I have 1996 HLA heads, do they even allow valvespring float?
Thanks for the info. I searched on the rev limit and came up with a result but I still want to know what you guys think.
What is the stock rev limiter for an EJ22T ECU?

I didn't know there was a rev limiter. But I've only really got experience with the 4EAT with the EJ22E motor. So I just assumed the rev limiting was going on because of the automatic transmission. When I had that car and you put your foot to the floor and held it there it would shift every gear right at the redline which was either 6K or 6500, it's been a while. That was a 90 with a 94 tranny. The crappy stock tranny died 2 weeks after I had it and before it died it would NOT shift unless you let off the gas a bit. So no rev limiter haha!
I had a 5speed for a while but I only drove it about 5 times and I never pushed it because I didn't want to snap the timing belt like I did in the 90. Then I sold it.

Only if your running more than 13 psi. At stock boost ~9 psi, rev limiter should step in 1st.kleinkid wrote:Would fuel cut out occur before a rev limiter function on an ej22t ecu?
Fuel cut is very abrupt, too.
I'm not hit the rev limiter as the the 4eat always shifts before I get there @ about 6200 rpm....and run out of road or cojonas in 4th.

The rev limiter is 6500 on the Ej22T ECU.
As was mentioned it would hit fuel cut at lower rpms if the boost is too high.
It's definitely not the heads or valve float. Redline on the DOHC Ej25d powered cars is also 6500rpms.

I agree with the redline being ~6500 on other EJ25 cars. My 2.5RS is that way I think. I hit fuel cut in 5th because I am running an MBC at 11psi and the increased load of 5th gear causes the turbo to hit 12psi which is where fuel cut lies. Its possible my tach is off, I am running smaller diameter tires but I figured that wouldn't have a bearing on the reading of the tach, only the speedo and odo. My engine just revs very odd when compared to my N/A car. At redline the rpms will just "lope" off the limiter whereas my N/A 2.5RS will literally "bounce" or zing off the limiter. It is a very different feeling for both cars. Thanks for the replies guys.Matt Monson wrote:The rev limiter is 6500 on the Ej22T ECU.
