ej22 na with ej22t plus turbo project
ok so the motor set up wants to be a ej22na block ej22t heads and im gonna have a turbo set up but my main question is what all goes on with putting the turbo heads on the na block do i need any new sensors, intake man., exhaust dont matter im a welder im gonna fab up my one turbo manifold anyway, but is this just like heads bolt up and go or do i need to drill for coolant and all that stuff .

No. The heads are an identical casting (or seem it when comparing the two side by side and which makes sense from a mfg stand point). The only differences are the taps for the oil and coolant and the cam timing is a little different. I think the (exhaust?) valves may also be a little different size if I recall the manual correctly. Anyway, it's bolt on and uses the same cam sensors. As far as the intake goes, I don't remember. It will bolt up no problem, but there may be an extra vacuum hook up or something on the turbo if you're going with a complete OEM swap. I've swapped the turbo long block in as an N/A and the intake and exhaust bolted right up. Only needed to cap off the coolant and oil.

also the valve covers are different due to the convoluted ej22t PCV system. you could run the 22e valve covers if you wanted to do some sort of catch can or simplified PCV setup.
also the 22T pistons are much stronger. thicker ringlands and moly coated. you might consider running those.

I thought about asking the same thing, but I figured if your'e going to have a turbo, turbo head gaskets would be in order. Plus I looked at his sig and saw he's got a TW. I envy himbiggreen96 wrote:stock NA or stock Turbo?

I thought NA and turbo had the same gasket thickness .152

and the different CR comes from the piston volume
is this incorrect?

I can neither confirm nor deny. But it would stand to reason that gaskets made for forced induction are probably going to be constructed a bit more rugged, to withstand higher pressures from afore mention induction. I could be way off base though, I have had a lot of coffee today

Pay attention to the coolant passages besides/around the cylinder walls.

1991 EJ22E gasket:

These graphics are of Felpro gaskets, and would also fit other years as well. I'm sure someone smarter than me can say "oh those fit, don't worry about the passages" since I'm not an expert.

Re: ej22 na with ej22t plus turbo project
This thread is getting 'moldy', but since I wanted to add something....
Here are pics of the EJ22e HG on the EJ22T block:

I wanted to run this HG to raise my CR, since I read HERE that the EJ22e was thinner, but still safe.
As you can see, it covers up a lot of the passages. I know people are modifying the HG by drilling it out, but that didn't sound safe.
Here's visual proof that the heads are different in design of the passages. Pulled this from NASIOC - Ciper's post:

I also read HERE about the EJ22e vs. EJ22T head differences:

....I'd still like to know which set is better for mainting a high CR, as I'd like to build an EJ25 block/EJ22 head Frankenstein.....but is it just the PISTONS that change the EJ22's CR?<EJ22T> had better valves, seats, and cam profiles
