I'm not sure there's much else you CAN do about that. So if you have a TB spacer, why not use the EJ22T TB? Seems like it would be a simple thing to do although it positions the intercooler probably an inch further from the turbo than it would be which causes the piping to come up short but you'll have to extend the piping anyways so it's not a big deal.

Good news! I finally put the title in my name today! Hahahaha! After nearly a year and a half.

Cost me $133 because of late fee penalty. Not cool.

Hey Kimo, so i finally got this thing running!!! made a custom bracket for the throttle cable and she fired right up! Only downfall right now is that my 4eat is completely toast. Now would be a really good time to change over to a 5spd.

Sweet! No problem. I wanted that steering wheel. Reason was selling one I believe. But don't have the money.

Spent 3 hours working on my engine tonight. I got my tbolt clamps in the mail today. Now I have like 20 of them at least. Various sizes.

Bought some fuel line not knowing what size it needed to be and it turned out to be too small. I tore the hose on the passenger side fuel rail a while back. I was working on my car tonight starting at around 3am so no stores were open to get a larger fuel hose. Then I found a fuel hose off the fuel pump/sending unit that came with my swap and it was the perfect size. Trimmed it down a bit and it fit right on.

Image

Then I put my new hose clamps on the intake and wrestled with the turbo for about half an hour trying to get the stupid silicone hose on it.

I will NEVER use an intake that goes under the manifold again!!! It's so much of a hassle. Don't do it. It's miserable. It fits tighter than a nun's cunt. Too tight (never seen that before have you).

Intake is bolted back down again for good hopefully this time. Installed the Group N picth mount except I'm missing the bolt that holds it to the firewall.

Image

Installed these nifty little insulators that hold the tank onto the manifold without transfering heat to it.

I also need a power steering pulley. I'm missing mine somehow.

Does this break booster hose go on the intake here?

Image

What is this connector for?

Finally a quick mockup with the intake, maf and intercooler in place.

That connector is either for the O2 sensor or for the neutral & reverse switch on the trans.

What MAF is that you have on that turbo air inlet ? Is that one of the ones you have that the flange doesn't match your JDM airbox?

Correct. It's an Autronics off of a first gen impreza I found in the junkyard I believe. Bolt pattern isn't tall enough, nor is the diameter of the tube for that JDM airbox.

I really want to go rotated turbo though. I hate the under the intake setup. I can't even put into words how much I hate that setup now. It was expensive as hell and it sucks. I think it's maybe meant for a different intake than mine but wow. Doesn't fit well, it's super crammed in there and makes it close to impossible to get the intake onto the turbo.

If I went rotated I could easily use a USDM airbox, probably the stock one and that would be another problem eliminated.

I just wonder what all I would need to go rotated and and how much I would have to fork out to get a setup off NASIOC or something. Just need a custom up pipe and rotated down pipe right?

Before you go spending a bunch more money on a rotated setup, have you looking into phenolic manifold spacers? They're available in a couple thicknesses and could provide more clearance for the intake, plus keep the manifold cool.

I believe Kimo's already using them on his motor.

Yup, the phenolic 8mm spacers are in already. They didn't help at all because the problem is with the fuel lines. They're bolted to the manifold so spacers won't make any difference.

It's more than that though. It's just a pain the way you have to get the intake on the turbo when you're installing the manifold.

I was checkin out the NASIOC classifieds and it looks like a rotated setup will run you at least $600 if not $1200. Pretty ridiculous.

Why so much?

Another thing I saw was that they all come with external wastgates built in. Is this necessary? I would be using this on my TD05 which has an internal wastegate. Is it just because most people who run rotated setups use big garret chargers with no internal wastegate?

Could I just custom build or have someone custom build me a rotated setup using the turbo's internal wastegate on the cheap? All you need is a mandrel bender, a welder, some extra pipe and some skill right?

Your MAF situation--One MAF that will fit your JDM airbox is from Q45 Infinity, 22680 61U01 A36-000 P61 JECS. It is three wire, your harness is probably five wire, and the connector is not the same size. Maybe you could take the square top off of a Subaru JECS MAF, de solder the contacts, remove the connector from the side and swap it onto the Q45 MAF. I am using the Q45 MAF basically for the tube, my EM, Autronic, doesn't use MAF. Is is big also, 90mm.

What exactly is the difference between 5 wire and 3 wire connectors? What's the extra 2 wires for?
