ARP Studs

Post by Legacy777 »

Was just curious if these look like the right ARP studs. I guess I had not seen ones that are chromed, so just wanted to make sure.

I don't think they are chrome. They just have a nice surface finish which makes them stronger.

The reason I say that is because the tops rust fairly easily in MN winters when used on the old single cam heads. The rust cleaned off easily, but there was no evidence of chrome with how the tops of the stud corroded.

At least they sent you the right studs to begin with.......

Well.....I ordered those studs via part #, specifically based off of the information here (your thread). I did not tell them what application I was planning to use them for.

Quick question on the studs. Should the studs be bottomed out, or just unscrewed slightly from the bottom?

Working on getting the bung for the oil temp sensor welded into the oil pan this week, and should be ready to put the motor together....hopefully.

Just barely hitting bottom. Basically, i stop once they stop turning, and usually back off a slight bit (like, an eighth of a turn or so) That way, you have full thread engagement on both ends, and have 3-4 threads sticking out the top once it is all said and done.

Only problems i had doing it that way were from using the wrong studs at first. When i used the short ones, it stretched the threads in the middle holes on both sides, so they were kinda tight running in.
