Re: Steering wheel
Yes I believe it should be possible. I'm not sure how the cruise control will hookup....if it will. I know others have done this, so they may be able to comment.

Re: Steering wheel
I have an 06 STi wheel in mine, real easy to do. Technically you're supposed to have a tool to do it but mine came off with a little force. Make sure you have the wheel dead center though when you remove it, otherwise you won't be able to line it up very easily.
Does the 92 have an airbag? If it doesn't it will take a lot of effort to make one work, if it does I'm not sure but it's probably just a couple wires, just make sure the battery has been unplugged for a while before you attempt that.
Cruise control I haven't tried, mine didn't work in the first place, so it'd be tough to tell if I wired it right.

Yeah be careful messing with airbags. They can kill you.

@ Apex3:
Where did you obtain your 06 STi Steering wheel? I'm assuming that one cannot order in a steering wheel with an active airbag via airmail or even surface mail as it contains what is considered by most governments to be an explosive charge.
Did you just pull it off a wrecked STi or buy it locally?

My friend's car was wrecked, airbag deployed, so he got a Sparco and gave me his, I wrapped the airbag in suede and called it a day.KILO wrote:@ Apex3:

Re: Steering wheel
On my '95 I replaced the old steering wheel with a JDM STi v7 Momo wheel. The airbag could not work because the yellow connectors (DIN) were different sizes. In 1998 Subaru changed to a different size connector plug in the back. I doubt it will be able to work on your '95.Potter wrote:Alright thanks. What about the airbag though?
Sorry my verbage is less than technical. Basically, the yellow connectors on the back side of the steering wheel changed sizes. '92 is smaller, '98+ being bigger.
The downside is my airbag light was constantly illuminated.

Re: Steering wheel
Airbag regulations for power also changed over the years and I don't know how or if that would have affected a change to the sensor design. Even if you could get power to a new unit, I'm not sure if you'd want to. Would it be a problem? I don't know, but it's something to consider.
