High Output Coil

Post by crawlerdan »

i purchased two dodge neon coils, installed one on my 91, and built a second one to sell

you get a high output coil, plug and play harness (you have to do no wiring)
the 4 plug boots you will need, and the longer hardware you will need.

remove your coil, and boots, plug these in, and enjoy 3-5 more horsepower, and 1-2 mpg install time is about 15 mins
these claims are from other subaru owners that have done this swap, not me

will fit early legacyys, impreza, with 3 prong coil plugs

80.00 shipped anywhere in lower 48

mid-way down first page there's information on the diamond coil approaching ~24k volts on the secondary. no information on hitachi.

http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=224

only thing i found for mopar said 30k volts on the secondary and that was an SRT-4 coil pack for the turbo'd neon. the msd packs hit 36k volts with the cheapest i found online at $69.

anyways, an inexpensive upgrade using newer electronics. bump for a board member offering a complete kit for his fellow enthusiasts.

Ok, I have a version 1 swap in my ss, instead of the jdm coil packs i am running my stock coil. The coil you have will work right? Will send payment friday when I get paid then. Hope fully a better spark will help my raw fuel smell and clean up the exhaust a bit.

i looked at pics of your car, it looks like it will work. you must have a 3 wire coil plug to use this set up

Just got mine in the mail yesterday. Took me about an hour to install because I ended up fiddling with the coil connections on the wires. Have to go to the parts store to get a new kit to build my own spark plug wires so I can use the 90 degree connectors (the stock straight connectors don't work, and can't be modified. I tried. Trust me). Otherwise, everything was really simple. Just had to install the coil so I'm using the top 2 bolt holes, and rotated 180 so it's technically "upside-down" so the wiring will work. Doesn't effect the engine's ability to run though. Had I been ready for all this... I could probably do it all over again in about 20 minutes. Will post back later with performance info.

Just look at what I had to do to mine to get it to work and you should have no problems. My post explaining it is just a couple above this one.

no, its a standard neon/concorde/caravan coil. but it produced like 40 percent more voltage, somewhere around that. makes for hotter spark, more complete burn. if you reset your ECU, you may realize more mpgs as teh ecu will relearn at more efficiant peramiters....or some junk
