I don't think it's related, just timing. Competitors' recommended intervals went up to 90-100k around that time, so Subaru likely felt the need to keep up for marketing reasons since people noticed that change interval number and anticipated an expensive job. They may have made the belt stronger to go the 100k, perhaps not. Marketing dictates car design, engineering, and often arbitrary claims more than probably anything else. I don't know where it started, probably horsepower, maybe top speed, but advertised claims often have a very loose relationship with reality. Top speeds used to be clocked on hotted up models with gaps taped up, windshields on convertibles removed, mirrors removed, etc. Horsepower recorded without accessories on ringer engines under ideal conditions and just plain exaggerated. I wouldn't doubt it if the 60k mile interval was conservative, maybe to get a little more money into the service departments and the 100k was within the actual range. When longer t-belt change intervals became important marketing-wise in the face of competition recognizing customer apprehension at shorter intervals, they went to the larger number.

Or maybe I'm just a bit cynical.

Wired a switch in for fwd, and about to head out and install the new o2 sensor then reset the ecu. Edit, drove two miles without resetting the ecu and no cel! It normally would come on after about a mile and a half. I'm still gonna reset the ecu though. Edit, again, ecu unhooked and I keep forgetting to put that I painted the body of my fog lights green, left the front trim orange and I was going to put green stripes on the front covers but the tape peeled about half of the orange off. I was really pissed too cause I'm all out of orange paint and I was really looking forward to having orange covers with green stripes. Now I have to strip ALL the paint off the covers to re-do them, maybe I'll get a color that contrasts the green more than orange.

Finalized the design of the replacement badges (no more Subaru or Legacy) and rear tailgate trim.

I got some actual fog lights from a wrecking yard last year and I will take them apart from time to time and change the color of the housing that the light goes in. They went from original black to rustoleum orange to rustoleum green with some of the orange. I had the covers taped for stripes, green and orange, but after I sprayed the green, the tape pulled some of the orange off with it, leaving flat black spots and making it look terrible. Heres a few pictures, none with the green yet.
Black.

Orange.

Now, the back of the body is green and I just said hell with it and painted the covers green for now. So the lights are mostly green minus the piece that holds the lense and reflector into the body, that stayed orange. It looks pretty good actually.
How it looks now.

And what the tape did to the orange that was supposed to be strips.
Image
And the covers when you look close, the low stripes were supposed to be the orange ones.

Made my fender lights(useless amber things on facelift fenders) function like the over seas ones. I believe I'm the first to have the fender lights blink and function the same as the jdm ones do.
Video, pardon the crappy phone quality. Its what I had at the time.

That's how most of the rewired sidemarkers blink.

The suspension is awesome, i love how stiff the front of the car is. I need to get to pick&pull so i can get the top hats and put the rears on.

does anyone have a writeup on re-greasing the rear struts to eliminate the clunk sound?

As far as the FMIC, i have thought about it, but i don't know if i wanna move it. im thinking about painting it black. I also have a 2006 wrx muffler im installing as soon as i can get a flange. going for ultimate sleeper!

Finished it at one in the morning. Painted the strip below the windows black. THe Wal Mart paint that claims to be "fast drying" took almost all day to dry on some of the rubber on the trim. Now later in the day, I got the door handles off and I'm gonna paint them too.

Spent most of the day prepping, painting, and clearing my door handles. Let them sit for like two hours for the paint to dry then two more hours for the clear and when I finally get to installing them, the drivers door handle paint gets all chewed up from the door. I also baked the headlights. Tomorrow, the plans are paint the side trim and re-do the drivers door handle so I can be pretty much ready for the BNWM. I don't think I'm gonna be able to finish the good hood in time. Don't have the paint, don't have a paint gun, and don't really have the time either. Oh well. Just don't like taking my car to shows with a damaged hood..

Big North West Meet. Its supposed to be similar to WBM(Wicked Big Meet). This is the first year for the BNWM and it just happens to be in the same state as me! For your door handles, you can either 1, take them off, sand them like mad, and paint them a close match red or black. Or 2, mask the doors, sand the handles like mad, and paint them a close match red or black. I just used generic Wal Mart black on mine and took them off which is a major pain in the rear. I'm not sure if theres a red thats close to Rio Red but you can always look or just go with black. I don't know why the door handles were chrome in the first place, it just diesn't seem proper on these cars. And I hate chrome on inport cars haha.

Started cutting off the quarter panels for replacement. Found I misplaced the ^%$# wheel lock key and hope I can order a new one since the sticker with the key number has the last digit worn so that I can't tell if it's a 0 or 8. Looks like I'm working on restoring the teak yard swing now.

Ouch :/ I tried asking for that too. Subaru said they couldnt sell me one
even if I brought them in my lock key. Unfortunately I put them on my
goldies, but had them from my WRX and since I dont have the manual
for it since I sold it I cant get another set :smt011

This is from Gorilla Automotive Products. I'm glad that they're at least still around since these wheel locks are from 1998. I think I'm just going to destroy them to get them off and replace them with some regular lug nuts. I'm not really worried someone's going to jack my old Forester wheels.
