Post by njdriver04 »

is the spline count and diameter different on the drive shaft end which the steering wheel attaches on the older legacy steering column vs. 02 wrx steering column?

I think the steering wheel side is the same based on everyone swapping steering wheels, but can't comment about the side that connects to the steering rack.

thanks for the info

i can say for certain that the older style steering column has less splines than the new wrx styles.

my 93 touring wagon steering wheel fits my 04 forester turbo steering column just fine
i think the other end works too I recall swapping in a 05 impreza TS steering rack and i didn't change the column. I might have changed the u-joint it was a long time ago

Thanks for the info diesel devil; just want to point out that the 02 wrx rack has a different spline count. I'm curious which steering rack you put in, i assumed the newer styls also had a different spline. I counted 35+1 splines on the 02 wrx steeirng column. The (+1) represents the area where there is no spline on the steering column, i went ahead and measured the span of the area without a spline and then measured the distance between splines and came up with (+1) . I called up Sweet to see if i could source a universal joint that was 36spline and 5/8in. in diameter. they make a single and double universal joint with those specs. im going to install the wrx column in before i decided to go with the single or double.

89-91 steering columns also allow for the use of newer steering wheels?

has anyone run the wrx dash beam? I have already started formulating some ways to go about doing it. Proven methods would be helpful.

below: legacy on top, 02 wrx on the bottom
