How much does your Legacy Turbo cost you in a year?

Post by teaguespeed »

I was just wondering how much you guys spend on you legacy turbos in a normal year, excluding oil changes. I have been considering getting another next summer, but the one i have has been a bit expensive, mostly because of a blown head gasket. Explanations would be cool, maybe include how many miles are on your car.

Well mine has cost me more than 2 g's replacing a bunch of original items with STi items... clutch, flywheel, engine mounts, tranny mount, full suspension, and some non STi stuff, ss brake lines, fluid, pads, rotors, calipers, turboback exhaust. But most people wouldn't do that all that....

Maitenance wise so far it will need a heater core... and I replaced one of the half-shafts, and a busted coolant line. Just about the only unexpected expenses. Does that number include gas?

I will have to see what the car will need next year to better determine up-keep (I keep up-grading  ).

Mine has been more costly in my time more than anything else. I figure I've spent upwards of $300-400 on the car since I've got it, but DAMN, there's A LOT of man-hours involved troubleshooting all of my problems.

Let's see:
TB coolant line blew out - freaked me out, thought I blew a hg!
MAP sensor went up
idle switch/TPS
washed engine, whole HELLUVALOT of problems
damn gorilla nuts siezed, preventing me from undoing lug nuts.

See my posts for more info.

I'd say total, the car's been down for repairs (although minor) for about a month during the year or so I've owned it.

does not include gas or upgrades, just unexpected repairs.

teaguespeed: Exactly, some of us could get away with spending near nothing if we weren't always tinkering with something!

In the last year, i've probably spent zero $$$ on my car.

Seriously.

I haven't done a thing to it since i put the coilovers on it, and got the Prodrive wheels early this year.

Maintenance has been non-existent, i just drive it and it goes.

I've owned mine for about 3 months, and I have spent $300 so far, I expect to spend about another $700 in the next few months. Once I get everything fixed, I expect to spend very little on it...

Well I put $500-800. I replaced the rear rotors and pads, both front axles, 1 wheel bearing and seals, turned front rotors and replaced pads but have new front rotors on hold till I cream the ones I'm using, MAF sensor, O2 sensor, front seals, timing belt, rigged coolant fill tank, new NGK plugs, K&N panel filter, and alternator. I still need to replace valve cover gaskets. Some of this stuff wasn't vital to replace though either, like the MAF. I have to say though that I've had the car since 96 and till this past year I only replaced the front brake pads once and bought new tires, thats it!

Stuff that REALLY didn't need done that I spent money on in the last year( not included in poll ): Installation of Turbo-back exhaust, Saab 900 tmic purchase and install, oem WRX 16" wheels and tires, OBX race boost gauge, Joe-p mbc, Momo Euro edition aluminum shift knob and oem WRX hood scoop.

Geez! I don't even have a turbo, and I've spent upwards of the highest figure in the poll!!!

Of course, I should have a brand-new car with 130,000 sumthin miles when I'm done...

The car has 113,000. I bought it with 93,000. I wish I didn't have to put so many miles on it, but I can't afford a beater.
